The Hsm Ammunition Hsm Ammo 7mm Rum 140gr. Sbt Sierra Game King 20-pack promises magnum performance in a readily available, factory-loaded cartridge. This ammunition, manufactured by HSM Ammunition, features the venerable Sierra Game King bullet, a staple in the hunting world. The combination aims to deliver accuracy and consistent terminal performance on game animals.
My quest for this particular load stemmed from a need for a reliable and accurate 7mm RUM (Remington Ultra Magnum) cartridge for an upcoming elk hunt in the rugged Colorado Rockies. I required ammunition that could deliver flat trajectories and sufficient energy at extended ranges, ensuring ethical and effective shots. The 7mm RUM is known for its impressive ballistics, but finding consistent and accurate factory loads can be a challenge.
Upon unboxing, the ammunition presented a clean and well-organized appearance. The cartridges were neatly arranged in a standard 20-round box, with each round exhibiting a consistent finish and overall length. The Sierra Game King bullet, with its exposed lead soft point, inspired confidence, a testament to its reputation for reliable expansion.
Compared to other 7mm RUM offerings, like the Nosler AccuBond or Barnes TTSX loads, I chose the Hsm Ammunition Hsm Ammo 7mm Rum 140gr. Sbt Sierra Game King 20-pack primarily due to its proven bullet design and the manufacturer’s reputation for consistent loading. While the AccuBond boasts bonded core construction for deeper penetration, and the TTSX offers lead-free performance, the Sierra Game King provides a balance of accuracy and terminal ballistics that I felt was ideally suited for the anticipated ranges and game size. My previous experiences with HSM Ammunition had been positive, further influencing my decision.
My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. While the Sierra Game King bullet is a known quantity, the performance of HSM Ammunition’s loading would determine the overall value of this product. I was excited to see how this ammunition would perform at the range and, ultimately, in the field.

First Use Experience
My first experience with the Hsm Ammunition Hsm Ammo 7mm Rum 140gr. Sbt Sierra Game King 20-pack took place at my local shooting range. I tested the ammunition in my custom-built 7mm RUM rifle, equipped with a 26-inch barrel and a high-quality Leupold scope. Conditions were relatively favorable, with a slight crosswind and temperatures hovering around 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
The ammunition exhibited excellent accuracy right from the start. Five-shot groups at 100 yards consistently measured under one inch, a testament to the consistent loading and quality components used by HSM Ammunition. Recoil was significant, as expected with the 7mm RUM cartridge, but manageable with the rifle’s muzzle brake.
I encountered no issues with feeding, extraction, or ignition during the initial range session. The cartridges chambered smoothly, and the spent cases ejected cleanly. I was pleasantly surprised by the consistency in velocity, with minimal variation observed across multiple shots, indicating a uniform powder charge.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use, including multiple range sessions and a simulated hunting scenario in a mountainous environment, the Hsm Ammunition Hsm Ammo 7mm Rum 140gr. Sbt Sierra Game King 20-pack continued to perform reliably. The ammunition showed no signs of degradation, even after being exposed to varying temperature and humidity levels. The brass cases held up well, exhibiting no signs of excessive pressure or stretching after multiple firings.
In terms of durability, the ammunition proved to be quite robust. The bullets remained firmly seated in the cases, even after being subjected to the jostling and vibrations associated with carrying them in a backpack while hiking. I found the ammunition easy to maintain; simply wiping down the cartridges with a clean cloth was sufficient to remove any dirt or debris.
Compared to my previous experiences with other factory-loaded 7mm RUM ammunition, the Hsm Ammunition offering consistently outperformed them in terms of accuracy and velocity consistency. While some premium loads might offer slightly deeper penetration due to bonded core construction, the Hsm Ammunition load provided a compelling balance of accuracy and terminal performance, making it an excellent choice for hunting medium to large game at moderate to extended ranges.
