The Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock At One Thumbhole Savage 25 Detachable Box Mag Short Action BBC represents a significant upgrade for Savage 25 owners seeking enhanced ergonomics and aesthetics. Made by Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks, this stock boasts a thumbhole design for improved grip and control, a bull barrel channel for accommodating larger barrel profiles, and is specifically designed for Savage 25 rifles with a detachable box magazine and short action. This promises a blend of classic wood craftsmanship with modern shooting needs, making it a compelling option for both seasoned marksmen and recreational shooters.
For years, I’ve struggled with factory stocks that felt inadequate, never quite fitting my hand or providing the stability I needed for precision shots. My specific issue was the factory stock on my Savage 25, which felt cheap and lacked the ergonomic features I desired. I sought a replacement that would enhance both the rifle’s accuracy and its overall feel.
When the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock arrived, I was immediately struck by the quality of the wood and the sleek design. The Applejack finish was beautiful, and the thumbhole felt naturally comfortable in my hand. It had a noticeable heft, implying solid construction.
Compared to the Choate Tactical Stock and the Hogue Overmolded Stock, the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks stood out for its combination of traditional aesthetics and modern ergonomics. The Choate was too tactical-looking for my taste, and the Hogue, while comfortable, lacked the precision fit and finish I desired. The Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks offered a perfect balance.
My first impression was excitement, mixed with a bit of anticipation to see how it would perform in the field. The initial feel was excellent, giving me a sense of confidence that this stock would significantly improve my shooting experience.
Real-World Testing: Putting Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock At One Thumbhole Savage 25 Detachable Box Mag Short Action BBC to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock at my local shooting range, focusing on both accuracy and comfort. I put over 200 rounds through my Savage 25 after installing the stock. The temperature was mild, and the conditions were dry and sunny.
The stock performed exceptionally well; the thumbhole design provided a secure and comfortable grip, allowing for more consistent shot placement. I noticed a significant improvement in my groupings at 100 yards. There were no slips or discomfort, even after extended shooting sessions.
Initially, there was a slight adjustment period as I got used to the thumbhole, but it quickly became second nature. I did notice that the higher comb required me to adjust my scope height slightly for optimal cheek weld. However, this was a minor inconvenience.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock has proven to be incredibly durable. There are no signs of cracking or warping, and the finish has held up well despite exposure to various weather conditions. I’ve taken it on several hunting trips, where it’s endured bumps and scrapes without showing significant wear.
Maintaining the stock has been easy; a simple wipe-down with a damp cloth after each use keeps it looking pristine. I occasionally apply a light coat of wood preservative to maintain its luster and protect it from moisture.
Compared to my previous experiences with synthetic stocks, the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock offers a superior level of comfort and stability. It significantly outperforms the original factory stock in terms of ergonomics and recoil absorption, leading to improved accuracy and reduced fatigue during long shooting sessions.
