First Use Experience
I initially tested the Hawke Sport Optics Sidewinder 30 4-16x50mm Rifle Scope 30mm Tube Second Focal Plane at my local shooting range, focusing on targets at 100, 200, and 300 yards. The weather was sunny, with a slight breeze, providing decent conditions for zeroing and initial accuracy testing.
The scope performed admirably, even with the sun glare; the fully multi-coated lenses helped to maintain a clear sight picture. The turrets were easy to adjust, and the clicks were distinct, making zeroing relatively straightforward.
I found the eye relief to be generous, and the adjustable parallax knob on the side made it easy to fine-tune the focus at different distances. However, I did notice that the illuminated reticle, while helpful in low light, seemed a bit too bright at its highest setting during the daytime.
After my first range session, I was impressed with the clarity and ease of use, but I knew I needed to test it further in more challenging conditions. The initial brightness of the illuminated reticle was a slight concern that required further adjustments.
