Real-World Testing: Putting **Choate Tool H&R Survivor Stock** to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Choate Tool H&R Survivor Stock on a backcountry camping trip. The rifle accompanied me as a last-ditch self-defense tool and small-game getter. The integrated storage compartment proved invaluable for carrying extra ammunition, a small survival kit, and fire-starting tools.
The weather was variable, with periods of rain and sunshine. The polymer construction held up admirably, showing no signs of warping or damage from moisture. I was pleased with its performance and how well it held up under duress. It was easy to grip even with wet hands.
Installation was straightforward, requiring only basic tools. The thumb screw system for accessing the storage compartment and removing the forend was intuitive and efficient. It only took me a few minutes to change out the stock.
The only initial issue was the slightly slick texture of the buttpad. This made shouldering the rifle quickly a bit challenging with heavier clothing. Otherwise, it performed exactly as intended.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Choate Tool H&R Survivor Stock has proven itself to be a reliable and durable addition to my rifle. There are no signs of significant wear and tear beyond some minor scuffs from handling in the field. The storage compartment remains secure and the access points function smoothly.
Cleaning is simple; a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth removes dirt and grime effectively. The stock is resistant to most common solvents, ensuring it maintains its integrity even with more aggressive cleaning agents. It has continued to outperform my expectations.
Compared to using a traditional stock and carrying a separate survival kit, the Choate Tool H&R Survivor Stock offers a significant advantage in convenience and preparedness. The integrated design minimizes bulk and ensures essential items are readily accessible when needed. The integrated design makes it easier to carry for longer periods of time.
Breaking Down the Features of **Choate Tool H&R Survivor Stock**
Specifications
The Choate Tool H&R Survivor Stock features a durable polymer construction designed for H&R single-shot rifles and shotguns. The buttstock includes a 3 1/2 x 7 x 1 inch storage compartment, accessible via a swiveling buttpad secured with a thumb screw. The Choate Tool Store-Arm forend (sold separately) provides additional storage with compartments measuring 1 x 1 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches and 1 x 1 1/2 x 3 inches.
These specifications are important because they directly impact the functionality and utility of the stock. The storage compartment allows you to carry essential survival gear, while the durable polymer construction ensures it can withstand harsh conditions. The thumb screw design allows you easy access to the survival gear.
Performance & Functionality
The Choate Tool H&R Survivor Stock performs its job admirably by providing a secure and comfortable shooting platform while also offering ample storage for survival essentials. Accuracy remains consistent with the original stock, and the ability to carry extra ammunition and gear in the field significantly enhances the rifle’s overall utility. The primary strength lies in its integrated storage solution. The main weakness is the aforementioned slickness of the buttpad. A textured or rubberized buttpad would improve grip and stability.
