Let’s Talk About Caldwell Strap Plate Target Hanger Set
The Caldwell Strap Plate Target Hanger Set offers a simple, yet effective solution for hanging AR500 steel targets. Manufactured by Caldwell, this set includes rubber straps and necessary hardware, allowing shooters to easily attach their steel targets to various hanging stands. It’s designed to be a user-friendly and durable option for those looking to create a reactive shooting experience.
My need for this product stemmed from ongoing frustration with inadequate target hanging solutions. Flimsy wire hangers and easily broken rope systems just weren’t cutting it for my AR500 steel. I needed a robust and reliable system that could withstand repeated impacts and adverse weather conditions.
Upon unboxing the Caldwell Strap Plate Target Hanger Set, I was immediately impressed by the apparent robustness of the rubber straps. The hardware included seemed substantial and well-made, indicating a focus on durability. The bright yellow color of the straps is also a plus for visibility at the range.
Compared to using chains, which are noisy and can send shrapnel back at the shooter, or cheaper nylon straps that quickly fray and fail, the Caldwell set appeared superior. I considered alternatives like DIY solutions with repurposed materials, but the convenience and relatively low cost of the Caldwell set made it the more appealing option. It also seemed more convenient than some of the spring-based target hangers I’ve seen, which can be overly complex.
My first impression was optimistic. The design seemed straightforward and practical, suggesting a hassle-free target hanging experience. I was eager to put these hangers to the test and see if they lived up to my expectations for durability and ease of use.
Real-World Testing: Putting Caldwell Strap Plate Target Hanger Set to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Caldwell Strap Plate Target Hanger Set at my local outdoor shooting range. The range offers a variety of target stands, allowing me to test the hangers on different configurations. Installation was incredibly easy, taking only a few minutes per target.
The weather was slightly damp, with a light drizzle, which actually proved to be a good initial test. The rubber straps maintained their grip, even when wet, and didn’t slip or stretch significantly after repeated impacts. The targets swung nicely and safely.
The ease of use was a standout feature. No special tools were required, and the included hardware fit perfectly. I was able to quickly swap out targets and adjust their height as needed.
After the first use, I was extremely pleased. There were no signs of wear and tear, and the hangers performed exactly as intended. I had zero concerns about ricochet from metal-on-metal contact.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Caldwell Strap Plate Target Hanger Set has proven to be remarkably durable. I’ve used it in a variety of weather conditions, including intense heat, freezing cold, and heavy rain. The straps show no signs of cracking or significant degradation.
The hangers have withstood hundreds of rounds, ranging from .22LR to .308, with no issues. There’s been some slight marking from bullet splatter, but the straps remain structurally sound. This is a far cry from the constant replacements I was dealing with using rope and chains.
Maintenance is minimal. I occasionally wipe them down with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. I haven’t needed to replace any hardware or perform any repairs.
Compared to my previous experiences with inferior target hanging solutions, the Caldwell set is a significant upgrade. It has exceeded my expectations in terms of durability, ease of use, and overall reliability. It’s a buy-once-cry-once purchase.
