Safariland M18 Safsev Holster Kit 2 Review

Let’s Talk About Safariland M18 Safsev Holster Kit 2

The Safariland M18 Safsev Holster Kit 2 is more than just a holster; it’s a complete carry solution designed for professionals and serious firearm enthusiasts who demand security, speed, and versatility. Manufactured by Safariland, a name synonymous with quality and innovation in law enforcement and tactical gear, this kit is tailored specifically for the SIG Sauer M18. This holster distinguishes itself with its multi-layered retention system and adaptable mounting options.

I needed a holster that could reliably retain my firearm during dynamic movements and provide a seamless draw stroke for competition and training. I was also looking for something that offered various carry options without needing to purchase multiple holsters.

Upon unboxing, the robust construction of the Safariland M18 Safsev Holster Kit 2 was immediately apparent. The SafariSeven and SafariLaminate materials felt incredibly durable, and the overall design exuded a sense of quality and preparedness. It’s substantial, yet surprisingly comfortable against the body.

Compared to a Blackhawk Serpa holster and a Blade-Tech Total Eclipse, the Safariland stood out for its superior retention and modularity. The Blackhawk offered a similar draw speed but lacked the advanced security features. The Blade-Tech was minimalist and comfortable for concealed carry, but didn’t provide the same level of retention or the extensive mounting options of the Safariland.

My initial impression was one of excitement. The Safariland M18 Safsev Holster Kit 2 seemed like the perfect blend of security, speed, and adaptability, promising to be a significant upgrade from my previous carry systems.

Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland M18 Safsev Holster Kit 2 to the Test

First Use Experience

My first experience with the Safariland M18 Safsev Holster Kit 2 was at an outdoor shooting range during a law enforcement training day. I ran various drills, including rapid draw exercises, shooting on the move, and simulated building entries. The holster was subjected to a variety of weather conditions, including light rain and dusty terrain.

The Safariland M18 Safsev Holster Kit 2 performed admirably in all conditions. The Automatic Locking System (ALS) provided excellent retention even during rigorous movements, while the draw stroke remained smooth and consistent. There was a slight learning curve in mastering the ALS release, but with a few repetitions, it became intuitive.

No immediate issues arose during the first use, other than needing to practice the draw stroke to build muscle memory. The holster maintained its integrity despite the dusty environment, and the weapon remained secure throughout the training exercises.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of consistent use, the Safariland M18 Safsev Holster Kit 2 has proven to be incredibly durable and reliable. There are no significant signs of wear and tear, despite frequent use in various environments. The SafariSeven material resists scratches and abrasions, and the locking mechanisms remain tight and secure.

Maintenance is simple: a quick wipe down with a damp cloth keeps the holster clean. The ALS mechanism benefits from occasional lubrication with a dry lubricant to ensure smooth operation.

Compared to previous holsters I’ve used, the Safariland M18 Safsev Holster Kit 2 significantly outperforms them in terms of retention, durability, and adaptability. It instills a high level of confidence due to the multiple layers of security.
