Let’s Talk About Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights
The Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights promise to offer a streamlined aiming solution for various firearms. Viridian Weapon Technologies aims to deliver a compact, highly visible laser that enhances target acquisition in diverse lighting conditions. For an experienced outdoor and tactical gear specialist like myself, evaluating such a tool involves scrutinizing its practical application and durability, beyond just theoretical specifications.
I was seeking a laser sight to improve low-light accuracy on my carry pistol. I needed something compact, reliable, and easy to activate under stress. The lure of a green laser for enhanced visibility, compared to traditional red lasers, piqued my interest.
My initial impression was of a surprisingly small and lightweight module. The high strength thermo molded polymer felt sturdy enough, although I immediately questioned its long-term resilience to holster wear and potential impacts. The simplicity of the design was appealing.
Compared to Streamlight TLR series lasers and Crimson Trace laser grips, the Viridian offered a significantly smaller profile. I chose the Viridian primarily for its minimalist design and the promise of easier mounting on various firearms, without adding excessive bulk. While I appreciate the integrated light/laser options of Streamlight, for my particular carry pistol, I wanted the smallest possible footprint.
Initially, I was cautiously optimistic. The compact design and green laser visibility were promising. However, I also harbored concerns about battery life, ease of adjustment, and overall durability, given its relatively simple construction.
Real-World Testing: Putting Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights primarily at an indoor shooting range. I mounted it on my Ruger Security 9, following the slightly ambiguous instructions. The range offered varied lighting conditions.
The green laser was indeed highly visible, even under the bright fluorescent lights of the indoor range. The activation button, however, felt a bit stiff initially, requiring deliberate pressure to engage consistently. The laser adjustment screws were small and somewhat fiddly, making precise zeroing a bit tedious.
I did encounter a frustrating issue during the first session: the laser intermittently flickered, suggesting a possible battery contact problem. I had to adjust the battery several times to get a stable beam, which made me question the reliability of the battery compartment design.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use (approximately 2-3 range sessions per week), the Viridian has held up reasonably well. The thermo molded polymer shows no significant signs of wear. However, the battery contact issue has persisted intermittently, requiring occasional readjustment.
The laser has maintained its zero fairly well. But I found myself double-checking it more often than I would with more robustly constructed laser sights. Cleaning is simple, requiring only a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth.
Compared to my past experiences with Crimson Trace laser grips, the Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights offer a simpler, more minimalist approach. However, the Crimson Trace grips offer superior reliability and a more intuitive activation system. The Viridian offers a more streamlined profile, but at the cost of some robustness.
Breaking Down the Features of Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights
Specifications
- Manufacturer: **Viridian Weapon Technologies. *Viridian* is known for its innovative laser aiming devices.
- Color: Black. The black finish allows it to blend in with most firearms.
- Beam Color: Green. Green lasers are significantly more visible to the human eye than red lasers, especially in daylight.
- Laser Output: 5 mW. This is the maximum legal limit for laser output in the United States.
- Wavelength: 515 – 532 nm. This wavelength range falls within the optimal range for green laser visibility.
- Maximum Range: 100 yds. This range is adequate for most handgun applications.
- Battery Type: 1/3N Lithium. The 1/3N battery is compact but can be somewhat expensive and less readily available than other common battery types.
- Battery Life: 1 hours. This is a significant drawback.
- Battery Quantity: 1. Only needing one battery keeps the size down.
- Reticle: Laser. A simple aiming point.
- Operating Temperature: 0 – 140 Fahrenheit. This covers a wide range of environmental conditions.
- Weather Resistance: Yes. This offers some protection against moisture and humidity.
- Water Resistance Level: Water Resistant. This is not fully waterproof, and should not be submerged.
- Length: 2 in. The short length is great for not adding to the overall length.
- Width: 0.5 in. This narrow width ensures a low profile on the firearm.
- Weight: 4 oz. The light weight is a positive, it won’t add a lot of weight to the gun.
- Fabric/Material: High Strength Thermo Molded Polymer. While durable, this material is less robust than metal alternatives.
- Mount Type: Trigger Guard Mount. A trigger guard mount can sometimes interfere with holster compatibility.
These specifications highlight both the strengths and weaknesses of the Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights. The green laser and compact size are clear advantages. The short battery life and thermo molded polymer construction raise some concerns about long-term reliability.
Performance & Functionality
The Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights effectively provides a highly visible aiming point. The green laser is easily seen in various lighting conditions, significantly improving target acquisition speed, especially in low light. However, the intermittent battery contact issue negatively impacts its reliability and overall usability.
Its greatest strength is the visibility of the laser. The weakness is the battery contact and short battery life. It meets the basic expectation of providing a visible laser aiming point but falls short in terms of consistent reliability.
Design & Ergonomics
The Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights features a compact, streamlined design. The thermo molded polymer is lightweight and relatively durable. The activation button is ambidextrous.
The button requires deliberate pressure, which is less intuitive than other laser activation systems. The simple design minimizes bulk, but the battery compartment design needs improvement.
Durability & Maintenance
The thermo molded polymer should hold up reasonably well to normal use. The laser is water resistant, but not waterproof. Maintenance is straightforward, requiring only occasional cleaning.
I anticipate the battery contact issue will be the primary cause of failure over time. The lack of readily available replacement parts is also a concern.
Accessories and Customization Options
The Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights comes with minimal accessories. It includes only the necessary mounting hardware and adjustment tools. There are limited customization options for this particular model.
It is primarily designed to be a standalone unit. Compatibility with other accessories depends heavily on the specific firearm and holster used.

Who Should Buy Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights?
The Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights is perfect for recreational shooters or those seeking a budget-friendly laser aiming solution for occasional use. It would benefit those who prioritize a compact design and high laser visibility over ultimate reliability and battery life.
Those who require a dependable laser sight for self-defense or professional applications should skip this product. They should invest in a more robust and reliable option with longer battery life.
A must-have accessory is a supply of 1/3N batteries. A high-quality holster that accommodates the laser sight is also essential.
Conclusion on Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights
The Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights offers a compelling combination of compact design, high laser visibility, and affordability. However, the short battery life and intermittent battery contact issues significantly detract from its overall value. While the green laser is undeniably effective, the question of reliability hangs heavy.
At $121.99, the price is relatively justifiable, considering the features offered. The price makes it accessible.
Personally, I would recommend it with reservations. It’s a decent option for casual use. But I would strongly advise potential buyers to be aware of the battery life and potential reliability issues.
Ultimately, the Viridian Weapon Technologies Essential Green Laser Sights is a compromise. It’s a trade-off between size, visibility, and price versus long-term reliability. If consistent performance is paramount, a more robust and expensive option would be a better investment.
