As a seasoned shooter and tactical gear enthusiast, I’ve always stressed the importance of organized and protected ammunition. I was looking for a reliable and affordable solution to keep my .40 S&W and .45 ACP rounds neatly organized and protected during range trips and competitions.

Upon receiving the Berrys Ammo Box, my first impression was positive. The smoke-colored lid and black bottom give it a clean, functional look. It feels sturdy and well-made for the price point. Compared to some flimsy cardboard boxes or generic plastic containers I’ve used in the past, this seemed like a significant upgrade.

I was choosing between this Berrys box, a similar offering from MTM Case-Gard, and a more expensive metal ammo can. I chose the Berrys box because of its specific compatibility with both .40 S&W and .45 ACP, the compact size, and the positive reviews highlighting its durability.

My initial excitement was more about practicality than flashy aesthetics. I was eager to finally have a dedicated solution for organizing my ammo, and the Berrys Ammo Box seemed like it would deliver on that front.

Real-World Testing: Putting Berrys 92199 008 Ammo Box 40 S&W,45 ACP 100rd Smoke Lid W/Black Bottom to the Test

First Use Experience

I primarily tested the Berrys Ammo Box at my local outdoor shooting range. I loaded it with 100 rounds of .40 S&W and headed out for a day of drills and target practice. The box performed admirably, keeping the rounds secure and preventing them from rattling around.

The weather was relatively mild, but the range has a tendency to get dusty. The Berrys Ammo Box kept the dust out effectively, ensuring my rounds remained clean and ready to fire. It was easy to open and close, even with slightly gloved hands.

The flip-top design was intuitive and required no learning curve. I was able to quickly access my ammo without fumbling or struggling with latches.

My only slight concern after the first use was the hinge, which seemed a little thin. However, it held up fine and didn’t show any signs of stress.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Berrys Ammo Box has proven to be quite durable. I’ve taken it to the range countless times, tossed it in my range bag, and even left it in the back of my truck on a few occasions.

There are some minor scuffs and scratches on the surface, but the box is structurally sound and the lid still closes securely. The hinge, which was my initial concern, has held up surprisingly well.

Cleaning the Berrys Ammo Box is a breeze. A quick wipe down with a damp cloth is all it takes to remove any dust, dirt, or powder residue. Compared to my previous method of using makeshift containers, this has been a significant improvement.

This box definitely outperforms the flimsy cardboard boxes that ammo sometimes comes in. It’s more durable, more weather-resistant, and far more organized. It certainly meets, and even slightly exceeds my expectations for a budget-friendly ammo storage solution.
