38% Off promised a blend of quality, stopping power, and accuracy tailored for dove hunting, especially those challenging white-wing doves that demand a bit more oomph. Offered by RIO Ammunition, a brand gaining traction for its consistent performance and affordability, the “Texas Game Load” moniker piqued my interest, hinting at a load designed for the unique demands of Texas dove hunting.
My need was simple: a reliable, consistent load that patterns well in my go-to 12-gauge and delivers clean kills on doves, even at slightly extended ranges. After years of experimenting with various brands and shot sizes, I wanted to see if this RIO Ammunition offering could become my new go-to for the season.
The packaging was standard – nothing fancy, but the shells themselves looked clean and well-crimped. They felt solid, with a consistent weight that inspired confidence, important when you are pulling up on fast moving birds. My initial impression was positive, but the real test would be at the range and in the field.
I had been primarily using Winchester AA and Federal Premium target loads, known for their consistent patterns and clean burning powder. However, the RIO Ammunition TG368TX caught my eye due to its advertised stopping power specifically for dove, and its competitive price point, even more appealing with the 38% discount. Honestly, the promise of saving some money without sacrificing performance was hard to resist. I was cautiously optimistic, hoping for a pleasant surprise.

First Use Experience
My first outing with the RIO Ammunition TG368TX was at my local shooting range, patterning it through my trusted Benelli Montefeltro with a modified choke. I wanted to see how it spread at 30 yards, a common engagement distance for dove. The weather was mild, with a slight breeze – perfect conditions for testing.
The RIO Ammunition shells cycled flawlessly through my Benelli, and the recoil was noticeably mild, as expected from a standard velocity load. The patterns were surprisingly consistent, with a dense core and even distribution of shot across the target, which gave me immediate confidence. No issues whatsoever, which can always be a relief with a new ammunition.
Extended Use & Reliability
Over the next few months, I put the RIO Ammunition TG368TX through its paces during several dove hunts in varying conditions, from scorching afternoons to cool, misty mornings. The ammunition performed reliably every time, with no misfires or cycling issues.
The shells held up well during storage and transport, with no signs of deformation or powder leakage, even after bouncing around in my hunting vest. Cleaning my shotgun after each use was relatively easy, with minimal residue left behind by the RIO Ammunition. It consistently delivered clean kills on doves, even at slightly longer ranges, outperforming some of the cheaper target loads I’ve used in the past.
