For years, I’ve relied on blank ammunition for various training exercises, from simulating real-world scenarios in tactical drills to training gundogs for field trials. First Use Experience
I primarily tested the Kent Cartridge ProTrial Field Blanks 12 Gauge Blank Ammunition K1225PTFB 38% Off at a local dog training facility during a simulated field trial exercise. The purpose was to evaluate the blanks’ reliability in providing consistent auditory signals for training gundogs, a scenario where a clear and distinct report is crucial.
During the testing, the weather was moderately windy with intermittent rain, which often affects the consistency of sound projection. The Kent Cartridge blanks performed remarkably well in these conditions, maintaining a consistent report volume and minimizing any noticeable dampening of the sound.
Using these blanks was refreshingly straightforward; they loaded smoothly into my 12-gauge shotgun and ejected cleanly after each shot. No adjustments or modifications were needed to my firearm, indicating a well-manufactured and compatible cartridge.
The first use revealed a positive surprise: the minimal fouling left in the barrel after firing multiple rounds. This was a significant improvement compared to my experiences with other brands, greatly reducing cleaning time and maintaining the firearm’s performance over prolonged use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of consistent use, the Kent Cartridge ProTrial Field Blanks 12 Gauge Blank Ammunition K1225PTFB 38% Off continued to perform reliably. These blanks experienced over 500 rounds fired with consistent reports and minimal issues.

Maintaining these blanks was minimal; the relatively clean burn resulted in less frequent and easier cleaning of my shotgun. A simple wipe-down of the barrel and action after each use was sufficient to keep the firearm in optimal condition.
Compared to previous experiences with other brands, the Kent Cartridge blanks have significantly outperformed in terms of reliability, consistency, and cleanliness. They have met and exceeded my expectations, providing a superior blank ammunition option for field trials and training exercises.
