The Remington Premier Scirocco Bonded .308 Winchester 165 Grain Swift Scirocco Bonded Centerfire Rifle Ammunition
29332 $3.40 Off is a premium hunting round designed for optimal terminal performance on large game. Manufactured by Remington, this ammunition utilizes the renowned Swift Scirocco Bonded bullet, known for its exceptional accuracy, deep penetration, and high weight retention. The combination of a streamlined design and bonded core makes this a top choice for ethical and effective hunting.
As an avid hunter and long-range shooting enthusiast, I was looking for a .308 Winchester load that could deliver consistent accuracy and reliable expansion at varying distances. I needed something I could trust for both whitetail deer in the thickets of Pennsylvania and potentially larger game out West. The promise of a bonded bullet that resists core separation, coupled with the reputation of Remington’s Premier line, piqued my interest.
Upon unboxing, the Remington ammunition exudes quality. The brass casings are clean and polished, and the polymer tips of the Scirocco bullets are uniformly shaped, suggesting careful manufacturing. The rounds feel substantial in hand, hinting at the performance potential within.
Compared to other .308 hunting loads I’ve used, like Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Tip and Hornady Precision Hunter ELD-X, the Remington offers a different approach. The Trophy Bonded Tip is known for its extreme penetration, while the ELD-X focuses on long-range precision. I ultimately chose the Remington Premier Scirocco Bonded .308 Winchester 165 Grain Swift Scirocco Bonded Centerfire Rifle Ammunition
29332 $3.40 Off because of its balanced approach to accuracy, expansion, and penetration – a “sweet spot” for diverse hunting scenarios.
My first impression was positive. The ammunition’s meticulous construction gave me confidence, and the specifications suggested a flat trajectory and significant energy transfer on impact. I was eager to see how it performed in the field.
Real-World Testing: Putting **Remington Premier Scirocco Bonded .308 Winchester 165 Grain Swift Scirocco Bonded Centerfire Rifle Ammunition
29332 $3.40 Off** to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Remington Premier Scirocco Bonded .308 Winchester 165 Grain Swift Scirocco Bonded Centerfire Rifle Ammunition
29332 $3.40 Off at my local shooting range, zeroing my rifle at 100 yards and then extending the range out to 300. The weather was clear, with a slight crosswind. The controlled environment allowed me to focus on accuracy and consistency.
The ammunition performed admirably. Groupings at 100 yards were consistently sub-MOA (Minute of Angle), a testament to the quality of the Swift bullet and Remington’s manufacturing process. Even at 300 yards, I was able to maintain groupings well under 2 inches, which is more than acceptable for ethical hunting.
Using a chronograph, I recorded an average muzzle velocity of 2665 fps (feet per second), slightly below the advertised 2680 fps, but within an acceptable margin of error given the environmental conditions. There were no issues with feeding, extraction, or primer ignition across the 40 rounds I fired during that initial session. Recoil was manageable, as expected from a .308 cartridge of this weight.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, including multiple range sessions and a successful whitetail deer hunt, the Remington Premier Scirocco Bonded .308 Winchester 165 Grain Swift Scirocco Bonded Centerfire Rifle Ammunition
29332 $3.40 Off has proven to be incredibly reliable. The ammunition maintains its accuracy and consistency over time. I keep my hunting ammunition stored in a dry, climate-controlled environment to prevent any degradation.
I have not observed any signs of wear and tear on the unfired cartridges. The brass casings remain pristine, and the bullets remain securely seated. The ammunition is easy to store and transport in its original box.
My previous experiences with other premium hunting ammunition were positive overall, but the Remington offers a noticeable edge in accuracy at longer ranges. It has outperformed some of my previous favorites, particularly in windy conditions, likely due to the boat tail design and high ballistic coefficient of the Swift bullet. The terminal performance on game was also impressive, with a clean, ethical kill on the deer I harvested.
