Safariland 6355 ALS Tactical Thigh Holster – STX FDE Brown, Right Hand 6355-278-551 Review

Let’s Dive into Safariland 6355 ALS Tactical Thigh Holster – STX FDE Brown, Right Hand 6355-278-551

The Safariland 6355 ALS Tactical Thigh Holster in STX FDE Brown is more than just a holster; it’s a complete carry system designed for professionals and serious enthusiasts alike. Built by Safariland, a name synonymous with quality and innovation in law enforcement and military gear, this holster promises secure retention, rapid deployment, and all-day comfort.

For years, I struggled with finding a thigh holster that offered both reliable retention and a smooth, natural draw. I needed something that could keep my sidearm secure in dynamic situations but wouldn’t hinder my ability to react quickly. The Safariland 6355 ALS seemed like the perfect solution, promising a balance of security and accessibility that I hadn’t found elsewhere.

My initial impression upon unboxing was one of solid construction and thoughtful design. The STX FDE Brown finish looked fantastic, and the overall feel was rugged and durable. It felt lighter than I expected, considering the amount of hardware and adjustment options available.

I considered a Blackhawk! Serpa thigh holster and a few models from Blade-Tech before settling on the Safariland 6355 ALS. While the Serpa offered a similar price point, I was wary of its trigger finger release mechanism, having heard mixed reviews regarding accidental discharges. The Blade-Tech options were high-quality but lacked the active retention system of the Safariland.

I was immediately excited by the potential of the Safariland 6355 ALS. It seemed like the ideal blend of features, build quality, and reputation to finally solve my thigh holster needs.

Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6355 ALS Tactical Thigh Holster – STX FDE Brown, Right Hand 6355-278-551 to the Test

First Use Experience

My first test of the Safariland 6355 ALS was at an outdoor shooting range during a training session simulating active shooter scenarios. I was running drills that required quick draws and re-holstering while moving and engaging targets. The weather was sunny and dry, which provided optimal conditions for assessing the holster’s performance.

The ALS (Automatic Locking System) proved to be intuitive and reliable, providing a secure lock on my Sig Sauer P2022. Once I got the hang of deactivating the ALS with my thumb during the draw stroke, the motion became fluid and natural. There were no accidental releases, and the pistol remained firmly in place even during rapid movements.

There was a minor learning curve associated with the ALS release, but it was quickly overcome with practice. After a few hours of drilling, I felt confident and comfortable with the system. The initial adjustments to the leg straps took some time to dial in, but once set, the holster remained stable and didn’t shift during movement.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use in various training exercises, the Safariland 6355 ALS has held up remarkably well. I’ve used it in hot, dusty environments, as well as during simulated wet weather scenarios, and it has consistently performed without issue. The Safari-Laminate construction has proven to be resistant to scratches and scuffs, maintaining its appearance even after heavy use.

There are no noticeable signs of wear and tear on the holster body or the leg straps. The suede lining inside the holster has prevented any damage to my pistol’s finish. Cleaning is simple: a quick wipe down with a damp cloth is usually all that’s needed to remove dirt and debris.

Compared to other thigh holsters I’ve used in the past, the Safariland 6355 ALS significantly outperforms them in terms of retention, comfort, and durability. The ALS provides a much more secure hold than friction-based retention systems, and the adjustable leg straps offer a more customized and comfortable fit.
