Let’s Dive into Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – Plain Black, Left Hand 6287-9711-62
The Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – Plain Black, Left Hand 6287-9711-62 is a purpose-built holster designed for left-handed users who require a secure and discreet way to carry their firearm. Safariland, a name synonymous with quality and innovation in law enforcement and tactical gear, delivers a holster that prioritizes both concealment and retention. This holster boasts the SLS (Self Locking System), a rotating hood that provides excellent security, along with a semi-hi-ride position and slight forward cant for enhanced concealment.
For years, I struggled to find a left-handed holster that truly balanced security, comfort, and accessibility for concealed carry. Many options were either too bulky, offered inadequate retention, or were simply uncomfortable for all-day wear. The Safariland 6287 promised to address these issues with its low-profile design and renowned SLS retention system.
My initial unboxing experience revealed a holster that felt solid and well-constructed. The plain black finish gave it a professional, understated look, and the overall weight felt appropriate for a duty-grade holster. It was clear that Safariland paid attention to detail, ensuring a quality product.
Compared to other concealment holsters I’ve used, like the BlackHawk Serpa (which I found too bulky) and a generic leather holster (which lacked adequate retention), the Safariland 6287 stood out. I chose it specifically for its SLS retention and reputation for durability, hoping it would provide a more secure and comfortable carry experience than my previous options. My initial excitement stemmed from the potential for a holster that could withstand daily use while maintaining a low profile.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – Plain Black, Left Hand 6287-9711-62 to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Safariland 6287 at my local shooting range, focusing on drawing and re-holstering drills. The holster performed admirably in dry conditions. I also wore it during a training session that involved moving and shooting, simulating real-world scenarios.
The SLS retention system required some initial practice to master, but once I got the hang of it, drawing and re-holstering became fluid and efficient. The holster’s semi-hi-ride position and slight forward cant made it surprisingly comfortable for all-day wear, even while sitting. The retention was incredibly secure, giving me the confidence that my weapon would remain in place, even during strenuous activity.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of daily use, the Safariland 6287 has proven to be a reliable and durable piece of gear. There are minimal signs of wear and tear, even after consistent use in varying conditions. The finish has held up well, and the SLS mechanism continues to function smoothly.
I’ve carried the holster during outdoor activities, including hiking and camping, where it was exposed to dirt, dust, and moisture. Despite these conditions, the holster has maintained its integrity and functionality. Cleaning is simple, requiring only a damp cloth and occasional lubrication of the SLS mechanism. The Safariland 6287 far outperforms the generic leather holster I previously used, providing superior retention, comfort, and durability.
