Let’s Dive into Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6287-77412-131
The Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6287-77412-131 is designed for professionals and responsible citizens who demand both secure retention and discreet carry. Manufactured by Safariland, a name synonymous with quality and innovation in law enforcement and tactical gear, this holster offers a blend of accessibility and concealment. The 6287 features Safariland’s proven SLS (Self Locking System) rotating hood, a critical component for preventing unauthorized access to your firearm. This particular model comes in a sleek STX Tactical Black finish and is configured for right-hand draw, fitting specific Sig Sauer models.
My quest for the Safariland 6287 stemmed from a need for a more secure and concealable holster for my Sig Sauer P226R with a weapon light. I had previously been using an open-top Kydex holster, which offered good accessibility but lacked the positive retention I desired, especially in dynamic environments. The Safariland reputation for robust retention systems and the promise of effective concealment drew me in.
Unboxing the 6287, my initial impression was one of solid construction and quality materials. The STX Tactical Black finish looked durable and provided a matte, low-profile appearance. The holster felt substantial, but not overly heavy, indicating a good balance of strength and comfort.
I considered several other concealment holsters, including offerings from Blade-Tech and Raven Concealment. Ultimately, the Safariland’s SLS system and the specific compatibility with my weapon light swayed my decision. The positive, audible click of the SLS engaging instilled confidence that my firearm would remain secure until I needed it.
My first impression was definitely positive; the Safariland 6287 felt like a serious piece of kit designed for serious use. It wasn’t just another holster; it was a purpose-built tool that seemed ready to meet the demands of daily concealed carry.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6287-77412-131 to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground for the Safariland 6287 was the local shooting range, followed by integrating it into my daily concealed carry routine. I wanted to assess its draw speed, retention security during movement, and overall comfort during extended wear.
The first few draws were a little awkward, requiring me to consciously disengage the SLS hood with my thumb before acquiring a firing grip. However, after about an hour of practice, the motion became fluid and natural. The holster performed admirably in a variety of conditions, including a humid summer afternoon where I was sweating profusely; the STX finish maintained a solid grip on the firearm.
I experienced no issues or surprises beyond the initial learning curve of the SLS system. The holster retained the firearm securely during vigorous movements, including running and bending, giving me confidence in its ability to perform under pressure.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of daily carry and regular range sessions, the Safariland 6287 has proven to be exceptionally durable and reliable. The STX Tactical Black finish shows minimal signs of wear, and the SLS mechanism continues to function smoothly and positively.
The holster has maintained its shape and retention characteristics, even after repeated draws and re-holstering. Cleaning is straightforward; a quick wipe down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove any accumulated dirt or grime. This Safariland holster outperforms every other concealment holster that I have previously used in terms of both retention and durability.

The SLS system is highly effective, preventing accidental or unauthorized removal of the weapon. The adjustable tension device allows users to fine-tune the draw resistance to their preference.
A significant strength is the compatibility with weapon lights, a crucial feature for tactical and self-defense scenarios. Overall, this holster meets and exceeds expectations for a concealment holster focused on retention and reliability.
Design & Ergonomics
The Safariland 6287 features a semi-hi-ride design with a slightly forward cant, positioning the firearm close to the body for enhanced concealment. The SLS hood is intuitively placed for thumb activation, although some users may require practice to develop a consistent and efficient draw stroke. There is a slight learning curve to disengaging the SLS, but it offers unparalleled security.
