Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – Tactical Black, Right Hand 6004-149-121 Review

Let’s Dive into Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – Tactical Black, Right Hand 6004-149-121

The Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – Tactical Black, Right Hand 6004-149-121 is more than just a piece of gear; it’s a statement. It’s a declaration of preparedness, reliability, and a commitment to performance. From the Safariland lineup, this holster embodies the rugged dependability that professionals and serious enthusiasts demand, offering a secure and accessible platform for your sidearm.

My journey to this holster began with a growing unease during tactical training exercises. I needed a holster that could keep my Springfield XD secure through rigorous movement, while also allowing for a lightning-fast draw. The market is flooded with options, but few promise the level of retention and accessibility that the Safariland 6004 SLS claims.

Upon unboxing, the immediate impression was one of robust quality. The SAFARI-LAMINATE construction felt incredibly durable, and the overall weight was reassuring without being cumbersome. The Tactical Black finish was clean and professional, and the stitching was impeccable, suggesting a high level of attention to detail.

I considered the Blackhawk! Serpa and the Blade-Tech WRS Level II Duty Holster before ultimately choosing the Safariland. While the Serpa offered a fast draw, I had concerns about its long-term reliability under stress and potential for negligent discharges. The Blade-Tech was more streamlined, but I felt it lacked the robust retention capabilities required for demanding tactical situations.

My initial reaction was excitement mixed with a touch of anticipation. I was eager to put the Safariland 6004 SLS through its paces and see if it lived up to its reputation. This holster had the potential to be a game-changer for my training and operational readiness.

Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – Tactical Black, Right Hand 6004-149-121 to the Test

First Use Experience

The first real test of the Safariland 6004 SLS came during a demanding force-on-force training session at a local shooting range. I was running drills that involved sprinting, maneuvering through obstacles, and engaging targets under pressure. This environment immediately highlighted the holster’s strengths and revealed any potential weaknesses.

The SLS (Self Locking System) performed flawlessly in diverse conditions. It was a relief to use the holster, even when wet from simulated rain during a training exercise. Drawing the Springfield XD was intuitive after a few practice repetitions, and the rotating hood system felt secure and reliable.

There was a slight learning curve with the SLS mechanism, but it quickly became second nature. After the initial few draws, the motion felt natural and fluid. The only initial issue was adjusting the leg straps for optimal comfort and stability, which required some fine-tuning to avoid chafing during prolonged use.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of consistent use, the Safariland 6004 SLS has proven to be remarkably durable. There are no signs of significant wear and tear. Even after repeated exposure to dirt, dust, and the occasional rain, the SAFARI-LAMINATE construction has held up exceptionally well.

Maintenance is straightforward, requiring only occasional cleaning with a damp cloth and a light application of silicone lubricant to the SLS mechanism. This simple routine keeps the holster functioning smoothly and reliably. I was previously using a Kydex holster that required more meticulous cleaning to prevent scratches on my firearm.

The Safariland 6004 SLS significantly outperforms my previous holsters in terms of retention, durability, and overall peace of mind. It has instilled a sense of confidence that my firearm is secure and readily accessible when needed. The difference is night and day.
