Let’s Talk About High Speed Gear HSGI Duty Double Decker Taco U-Mount Rifle/Pistol Pouch
The High Speed Gear HSGI Duty Double Decker Taco U-Mount Rifle/Pistol Pouch is more than just a magazine carrier; it’s a versatile piece of kit designed for professionals and serious enthusiasts alike. High Speed Gear has built a reputation for rugged, adaptable gear, and this pouch looks to continue that legacy by accommodating both rifle and pistol magazines in a single, streamlined package. This eliminates the need for separate pouches, saving valuable real estate on your belt or plate carrier.
As a tactical gear specialist with over a decade of experience, I’ve seen countless magazine pouches come and go. I was searching for a solution that could consolidate my loadout, offering both rifle and pistol magazine carriage in a single, durable unit. I was constantly frustrated with the bulk and redundancy of carrying separate pouches for different platforms.
Upon receiving the High Speed Gear HSGI Duty Double Decker Taco U-Mount Rifle/Pistol Pouch, I was immediately impressed with its robust construction. The pouch felt solid in my hands, and the stitching appeared meticulously done. The materials felt durable and ready for some serious use.
Compared to similar “double stack” magazine pouches from Condor and Blackhawk, the High Speed Gear offering stood out due to its unique retention system and overall build quality. The other pouches I’ve used often lacked the secure retention needed for both rifle and pistol magazines, resulting in magazines shifting or even falling out during movement. The High Speed Gear HSGI Duty Double Decker Taco U-Mount Rifle/Pistol Pouch was initially more expensive than other models, but the promise of superior retention and build quality made the investment worthwhile.
My first impression was one of excitement. It seemed High Speed Gear had truly engineered a solution that could solve the problem of carrying multiple magazine types. The real test, however, would be putting it through its paces on the range and in field scenarios.
Real-World Testing: Putting High Speed Gear HSGI Duty Double Decker Taco U-Mount Rifle/Pistol Pouch to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the High Speed Gear HSGI Duty Double Decker Taco U-Mount Rifle/Pistol Pouch at my local shooting range, during a carbine course focused on tactical movement and reloads. I specifically wanted to assess its performance under simulated stress. The weather was dry and mild, perfect for a day of drills.
The pouch performed flawlessly during the initial testing. Drawing both rifle and pistol magazines was smooth and consistent. There was no slippage or awkward fumbling during reloads.
I initially had some concerns about the U-Mount system on my belt, but it proved to be secure and stable, even during rapid movements and transitions. I experienced zero issues with magazines coming loose unexpectedly, which was a pleasant surprise after struggling with other pouches.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use in various conditions, including rainy range days and a backcountry camping trip, the High Speed Gear HSGI Duty Double Decker Taco U-Mount Rifle/Pistol Pouch continues to impress. The pouch has shown no significant signs of wear and tear. The internal shock cord still maintains its elasticity, and the stitching remains intact.
Cleaning is simple. A quick wipe down with a damp cloth is generally sufficient to remove dirt and debris. I occasionally use a mild detergent to remove stubborn stains, but otherwise, maintenance is minimal.
Compared to my experiences with cheaper magazine pouches that quickly degrade or lose their retention, the High Speed Gear HSGI Duty Double Decker Taco U-Mount Rifle/Pistol Pouch has far surpassed my expectations. Its durability and consistent performance make it a worthwhile investment for anyone serious about their gear.

The internal retention system adapts to different magazine sizes and shapes, ensuring a snug fit without being overly tight. This balance is crucial for both retention and quick access.
A key strength is its versatility. It can accommodate AR-15 magazines, AK-47 magazines, Glock magazines, 1911 magazines, and more. The design is truly universal.
One area that could be slightly improved is the initial break-in period for the retention system. It can feel a little stiff at first, requiring a few practice draws to loosen up. However, this initial stiffness ensures long-term retention reliability.
Design & Ergonomics
The build quality is excellent. High Speed Gear uses durable materials like heavy-duty nylon and shock cord, ensuring the pouch can withstand the rigors of daily use. The stitching is clean and robust.
The U-Mount attachment system is well-designed and provides a secure and stable platform on the belt. It minimizes wobble and movement, even during strenuous activities.
There is a slight learning curve in optimizing the placement of the pouch on the belt to ensure comfortable and efficient access to both magazines. Experimentation is key.
Durability & Maintenance
Based on my experience, the High Speed Gear HSGI Duty Double Decker Taco U-Mount Rifle/Pistol Pouch is built to last for years, even with regular use in demanding environments. The materials are resistant to abrasion, tearing, and fading.
Maintenance is straightforward. Regular cleaning with a damp cloth is usually sufficient. For more thorough cleaning, mild soap and water can be used.

The High Speed Gear HSGI Duty Double Decker Taco U-Mount Rifle/Pistol Pouch doesn’t come with many accessories. Its primary focus is providing a versatile and reliable magazine carriage solution.
The U-Mount is compatible with most standard duty belts up to 2 inches in width. This makes it easy to integrate into existing loadouts. The pouch can be attached to MOLLE platforms using malice clips (not included), adding another layer of customization.
