Laser Ammo LaserPET II Electronic Training Target w/ 9mm SureStrike Cartridge Review

Let’s Talk About Laser Ammo LaserPET II Electronic Training Target w/ 9mm SureStrike Cartridge

The Laser Ammo LaserPET II Electronic Training Target w/ 9mm SureStrike Cartridge is a revolutionary training tool designed to enhance shooting skills in a safe and convenient environment. Crafted by Laser Ammo, this system combines an interactive electronic target with a laser-emitting cartridge that fits into your existing firearm. It offers a realistic and engaging way to improve accuracy, trigger control, and overall shooting proficiency without the need for live ammunition or a traditional shooting range.

I first encountered the Laser Ammo system when looking for a way to maintain my shooting skills without the cost and inconvenience of frequent range trips. I wanted a system that allowed me to practice at home, focusing on fundamentals without the distraction of loud noises and expensive ammunition. After researching various dry-fire training options, the LaserPET II stood out due to its interactive target and realistic feedback.

Upon unboxing the Laser Ammo LaserPET II Electronic Training Target w/ 9mm SureStrike Cartridge, I was immediately impressed by the build quality. The target felt sturdy and well-made, while the SureStrike cartridge had a reassuringly solid construction. The weight felt appropriate, indicating durable components.

Compared to other laser training systems I considered, such as the iTarget Pro and MantisX, the LaserPET II offered a more comprehensive and interactive training experience. While the iTarget Pro relies on a smartphone app, the LaserPET II has built-in training programs and immediate feedback on the target itself. The MantisX focuses on movement analysis, whereas the LaserPET II provides immediate visual and auditory feedback, which was exactly what I was looking for.

My first impression was one of excitement and anticipation. The system seemed well-designed and easy to set up, promising a significant improvement in my at-home training routine. I was eager to see if it lived up to its claims of enhancing shooting skills through realistic simulation.

Real-World Testing: Putting Laser Ammo LaserPET II Electronic Training Target w/ 9mm SureStrike Cartridge to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the Laser Ammo LaserPET II Electronic Training Target w/ 9mm SureStrike Cartridge in my garage, which I converted into a makeshift indoor range. The lighting was controlled, and the space allowed me to set up a comfortable 15-foot range. I used my HK VP9, equipped with the 9mm SureStrike cartridge, for the initial test.

The LaserPET II performed consistently well, even in the slightly colder garage environment. The target registered hits accurately, and the sound and flash feedback were immediate and informative. The system was easy to use right out of the box, requiring minimal setup.

The only minor issue I encountered was the need to rack the slide between each shot, as my VP9 doesn’t have an external hammer. This, however, became an opportunity to practice my slide manipulation skills alongside my aiming and trigger control.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of consistent use, the Laser Ammo LaserPET II Electronic Training Target w/ 9mm SureStrike Cartridge has proven to be a reliable and valuable training tool. The target has held up well, showing no signs of wear and tear, despite frequent use. The SureStrike cartridge continues to function flawlessly, and the battery life is impressive.

Maintenance is minimal, requiring only occasional cleaning of the SureStrike cartridge with a dry cloth. The LaserPET II itself requires no special care. Compared to my previous dry-fire practice methods, which involved using snap caps and focusing on sight alignment alone, the Laser Ammo system offers a significantly more engaging and effective training experience. It has exceeded my expectations in terms of both usability and performance.
