Let’s Talk About High Speed Gear Handcuff Taco Kydex U-Mount Case
The High Speed Gear Handcuff Taco Kydex U-Mount Case is a rigid, Kydex-based handcuff pouch designed for secure and rapid access to restraints. High Speed Gear is known for its durable and versatile tactical gear, and this handcuff case aims to uphold that reputation. It boasts a unique U-Mount system for stacking other gear and a retention system compatible with both chained and hinged cuffs.
My search for a better handcuff carrying solution began after years of using traditional leather pouches. Leather, while classic, became bulky when wet and didn’t offer the retention I needed for active duty. I needed something more streamlined, durable, and secure; a Kydex pouch seemed the logical evolution.
Upon unboxing, the High Speed Gear Handcuff Taco Kydex U-Mount Case felt robust and well-constructed. The Kydex was thick and rigid, suggesting it could withstand the rigors of daily duty. Its minimalist design struck me immediately, a departure from the bulky flaps and snaps of my old leather pouch.
I considered several similar products before settling on the Handcuff Taco. The Safariland 7305 7TS Handcuff Case was a strong contender, but its fixed tension wasn’t as appealing as the adjustable shock cord of the Taco. Similarly, the Blade-Tech Handcuff Pouch felt less versatile in terms of mounting options.
My first impression was positive and a sense of relief washed over me. I was eager to replace my worn leather pouch with a lighter, more reliable option. This pouch seemed like it could offer the perfect balance of security and accessibility.
Real-World Testing: Putting High Speed Gear Handcuff Taco Kydex U-Mount Case to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing occurred during my regular patrol shifts. I mounted the High Speed Gear Handcuff Taco Kydex U-Mount Case on my duty belt using a High Speed Gear Universal Clip. I experienced its utility first-hand during several arrests where quick access to my handcuffs was critical.
The Handcuff Taco performed admirably in both dry and damp conditions. Unlike my old leather pouch, the Kydex resisted water absorption, maintaining its shape and rigidity. Accessing the cuffs was consistent and swift, thanks to the adjustable shock cord retention.
The transition from my previous pouch was remarkably smooth. The open-top design required minimal conscious effort to draw the cuffs. There were no initial issues or surprises; the Handcuff Taco performed exactly as advertised.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of continuous use, the High Speed Gear Handcuff Taco Kydex U-Mount Case has proven its durability. There are no cracks, chips, or significant scratches on the Kydex. The shock cord remains resilient and the snap closure is still strong.
The pouch requires minimal maintenance. A quick wipe-down with a damp cloth is all that’s needed to remove dirt and grime. Compared to my old leather pouch, which required regular cleaning and conditioning, the Handcuff Taco is virtually maintenance-free.
The Handcuff Taco outperforms my previous handcuff carrying solutions in every aspect. Its durability, ease of use, and consistent retention make it an invaluable piece of my duty gear. It far exceeded my initial expectations.
