Samson KeyMod Direct GoPro Weapon Mount Kit Review

Let’s Talk About Samson KeyMod Direct GoPro Weapon Mount Kit

The Samson KeyMod Direct GoPro Weapon Mount Kit offers a streamlined solution for mounting your GoPro directly to any KeyMod-compatible handguard. Samson aims to provide shooters with a stable, low-profile platform to capture first-person footage of their shooting experiences. After years of jury-rigging GoPro setups on my rifles, using everything from zip ties to improvised rails, I was eager to test a purpose-built mounting system.

My frustration stemmed from wobbly, offset mounts that compromised both the stability of my shots and the quality of the video. I wanted a mount that was rock-solid, wouldn’t interfere with my grip, and allowed for easy removal and reattachment of the GoPro. The promise of a direct KeyMod interface and compatibility with factory GoPro housings drew me to the Samson KeyMod Direct GoPro Weapon Mount Kit.

Unboxing the kit, I was immediately impressed by the simplicity and robustness of the design. The black anodized aluminum base and universal mount felt solid in hand, inspiring confidence in their ability to withstand recoil. The minimalist design was a welcome departure from some of the bulkier, more complicated GoPro mounting options I’d seen.

I considered other options like the Magpul MOE M-LOK Mount and various Picatinny rail adapters. However, the Samson KeyMod Direct GoPro Weapon Mount Kit stood out due to its direct KeyMod attachment and the promise of a truly centered, low-profile setup. These other options often resulted in awkward positioning, or required extra adapters that added weight and potential failure points.

My initial reaction was one of cautious optimism. I was excited by the clean design and apparent ease of installation, but I remained skeptical about its ability to withstand the rigors of real-world use. I needed to see if it could truly deliver on its promise of stability and reliability.

Real-World Testing: Putting Samson KeyMod Direct GoPro Weapon Mount Kit to the Test

First Use Experience

My initial testing took place at my local outdoor shooting range, where I primarily shoot AR-15s and other modern sporting rifles. I mounted the Samson KeyMod Direct GoPro Weapon Mount Kit to the handguard of my AR-15, a fairly standard setup. I tested it with both .223 and .300 Blackout ammunition to assess its performance with varying levels of recoil.

The mount performed admirably, even under rapid fire conditions. There was minimal vibration or movement of the GoPro, resulting in surprisingly stable footage. I was particularly impressed with how well it held up to the concussion from the muzzle brake on my .300 Blackout pistol.

Installation was quick and intuitive, requiring only an Allen wrench to tighten the KeyMod screws. I didn’t encounter any unexpected issues, although I did need to adjust the GoPro’s angle slightly to get the desired field of view. This initial experience instilled a greater sense of confidence in its long-term viability.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Samson KeyMod Direct GoPro Weapon Mount Kit has proven to be remarkably durable. I’ve used it in a variety of conditions, from sunny range days to damp, muddy outings in the woods. The anodized finish has held up well, showing only minor signs of wear.

Despite repeated mounting and dismounting, the KeyMod interface remains secure and shows no signs of loosening. I’ve made it a habit to check the screws before each range session, but they rarely require tightening. Cleaning is straightforward, usually just requiring a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth.

Compared to my previous improvised setups, the Samson KeyMod Direct GoPro Weapon Mount Kit is a night-and-day difference. The stability and ease of use are unparalleled, and the low-profile design ensures that it doesn’t interfere with my shooting. This mount has significantly enhanced my ability to capture and share my shooting experiences.

Because it utilizes the standard GoPro mounting interface, users can customize the camera angle and position to some degree. However, there are limited opportunities for further customization of the mount itself. One could add third-party GoPro accessories, like filters or protective lenses, to enhance the footage captured.
