Let’s Talk About EGO Fishing S2 Compact Net
The EGO Fishing S2 Compact Net promises to be a versatile tool for anglers who need a net that’s both portable and capable. Manufactured by EGO Fishing, it boasts an extendable handle and a reasonably sized hoop, features that caught my attention immediately. I was seeking a reliable landing net that wouldn’t take up too much space in my kayak, but still offered sufficient reach and capacity for handling a variety of fish.
My old, cumbersome net was a nightmare to store, constantly getting in the way and proving unwieldy in tight spaces. Upon unboxing the EGO Fishing S2 Compact Net, I was immediately struck by its lightweight design and the smooth action of the telescoping handle. The materials felt durable, and the nylon mesh appeared to be well-constructed, a stark contrast to the flimsy netting I’d encountered on cheaper nets.
I considered the Frabill Weigh Net and the YakGear Manta Ray Landing Net before settling on the EGO Fishing S2 Compact Net. The Frabill was too bulky, and the YakGear felt less robust. The EGO Fishing S2 Compact Net seemed to strike a perfect balance between portability, reach, and durability.
My first impression was one of pleasant surprise; it exceeded my initial expectations. I was excited to get it out on the water and put it through its paces.
Real-World Testing: Putting EGO Fishing S2 Compact Net to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the EGO Fishing S2 Compact Net on a local lake, primarily targeting bass and crappie from my kayak. The weather was cooperative, with sunny skies and a light breeze. The conditions allowed for optimal visibility and maneuverability.
The extendable handle proved invaluable when landing fish from the kayak, providing the extra reach needed to avoid spooking other fish. The net performed admirably, easily scooping up several bass in the 1-3 pound range. The nylon mesh was gentle on the fish, minimizing scale loss and allowing for a healthy release.
The initial extension and retraction of the handle were smooth and effortless. There were no sticking points or frustrating hitches.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the EGO Fishing S2 Compact Net has held up remarkably well. I’ve used it in both freshwater and saltwater environments, encountering varying weather conditions. The net has faced everything from scorching sun to light rain.
There are no significant signs of wear and tear, despite frequent exposure to water, sunlight, and the occasional accidental drop on rocky surfaces. The handle extension mechanism still operates smoothly, and the nylon mesh remains intact, showing no signs of fraying or tearing. Regular rinsing with freshwater after each use has kept it clean and free from corrosion.
Compared to my previous, less expensive nets that quickly deteriorated, the EGO Fishing S2 Compact Net has significantly outperformed them. Its durability and consistent performance have made it a reliable and valuable piece of gear.
