Let’s Talk About Sako Optilock Extended Action Scope Base
The Sako Optilock Extended Action Scope Base is a critical component for securely mounting optics on Sako rifles. These bases, manufactured by Sako, are designed to provide a stable and precise platform for scopes, ensuring accurate and repeatable shooting. The extended action variant caters to specific Sako rifle models, offering a tailored fit.
I was in dire need of a reliable mounting solution for my vintage Sako rifle. My goal was to modernize it with a high-quality optic for improved long-range accuracy. The existing mounting system was outdated and inadequate, resulting in inconsistent zeroing.
Upon unboxing, I immediately noticed the robust steel construction of the bases. They had a reassuring weight and a flawless blued finish. The build quality exuded precision and durability.
Compared to generic, universal scope bases, the Sako Optilock Extended Action Scope Base offers a custom fit specifically for Sako rifles. I also considered Weaver-style bases, but they lacked the integrated dovetail design of the Sako system. Ultimately, the Sako Optilock‘s dedicated fit was the deciding factor.
My first impression was one of relief and anticipation. Finally, a proper mounting solution that promised to unlock the full potential of my rifle. I was excited to experience the improved accuracy and consistency I had been seeking.

My initial testing took place at my local shooting range. I mounted a high-magnification scope on my Sako rifle using the Sako Optilock Extended Action Scope Base. The process was straightforward, with the bases aligning perfectly with the rifle’s integral dovetail.
The weather was sunny but with a slight crosswind. Even under these conditions, the scope remained rock-solid on the Sako Optilock bases. There was no shifting or movement during firing.
The Sako Optilock Extended Action Scope Base required minimal adjustment. After a few shots to confirm zero, I was consistently hitting targets at various distances. I experienced none of the initial issues I had with the previous mounting system.

After several months of regular use, the Sako Optilock Extended Action Scope Base has proven its worth. It has held up flawlessly under a variety of conditions. This includes exposure to rain, snow, and temperature fluctuations.
There are no signs of wear and tear on the bases. The blued finish remains intact, showing no corrosion or scratches. The mounting screws have remained secure, with no loosening or slippage.
Maintenance involves occasional cleaning with a dry cloth to remove dust and debris. I also periodically check the mounting screws to ensure they remain properly torqued. This simple routine keeps the bases in top condition.
