Maxpedition Entity 23 CCW-Enabled Laptop Backpack, 23L Review

Let’s Talk About Maxpedition Entity 23 CCW-Enabled Laptop Backpack, 23L

The Maxpedition Entity 23 CCW-Enabled Laptop Backpack, 23L is a low-profile, ergonomically designed pack perfect for the urban operator or everyday carry enthusiast. Manufactured by Maxpedition, this 23-liter backpack blends tactical functionality with a civilian aesthetic. Its standout features include a dedicated, lockable laptop compartment, a concealed carry weapon (CCW) compartment, and magnetic tuckable wings for quick access.

I’ve always struggled to find a bag that could seamlessly transition from a professional setting to a training environment. I needed something that could carry my laptop and work essentials but also be ready to accommodate a sidearm and extra magazines discreetly. The promise of the Maxpedition Entity 23 CCW-Enabled Laptop Backpack, 23L fulfilling both roles is what initially drew me to it.

Upon unboxing, I was immediately impressed by the robust feel of the pack. The materials felt durable, and the stitching was clean and reinforced, a trademark of Maxpedition products. The weight was reasonable for a pack with so many features, hinting at a well-thought-out design.

Compared to my older tactical backpack (a 5.11 Rush 12) and a typical North Face laptop bag, the Maxpedition Entity 23 CCW-Enabled Laptop Backpack, 23L seemed a good balance between ruggedness and subtlety. The 5.11 was too overtly tactical for daily office use, and the North Face lacked the organization and security features I desired. I chose the Maxpedition Entity 23 CCW-Enabled Laptop Backpack, 23L for its discreet appearance and functional design.

My first impression was one of cautious optimism. I was excited about the potential, but also aware that many “tactical” bags can fall short in real-world use. Only time and rigorous testing would reveal if the Maxpedition Entity 23 CCW-Enabled Laptop Backpack, 23L could truly deliver on its promises.

Real-World Testing: Putting Maxpedition Entity 23 CCW-Enabled Laptop Backpack, 23L to the Test

First Use Experience

My first real test for the Maxpedition Entity 23 CCW-Enabled Laptop Backpack, 23L was a day at the shooting range followed by an evening meeting. I packed my 15-inch laptop, several magazines, a holster, and my usual everyday carry items. I then headed out for a full day of rigorous testing.

The weather was surprisingly wet that day, providing an immediate test of the pack’s water resistance. I found the pack handled the light rain well, keeping the contents dry during the commute to the range. Accessing the CCW compartment was swift and easy, which is critical in a defensive situation.

The pack was surprisingly comfortable, even when fully loaded. The padded shoulder straps distributed the weight effectively, and the adjustable sternum strap kept everything stable during movement. The design allowed it to integrate into my load-out in a non-intrusive way.

After the initial range session, I noticed that the side pockets, designed for M4/AR15 magazines, worked perfectly for storing water bottles or spare pistol magazines. I was also pleasantly surprised by how easily the magnetic wings secured the main compartment, making it easy to access items quickly without fully opening the pack. There were no immediate issues.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of daily use, the Maxpedition Entity 23 CCW-Enabled Laptop Backpack, 23L has proven to be a reliable and versatile pack. It has accompanied me on numerous trips, range visits, and daily commutes, showing minimal signs of wear and tear. The pack has served me in multiple scenarios, exceeding my initial expectations.

The Maxpedition Entity 23 CCW-Enabled Laptop Backpack, 23L continues to hold up extremely well to daily wear and tear. The high-quality materials and reinforced stitching have proven their worth, with no rips, tears, or broken zippers to report. Even when subjected to scrapes and rough handling, the pack maintains its integrity.

Cleaning the pack is relatively easy. A damp cloth and mild soap are usually sufficient to remove dirt and grime. I have found that spot cleaning is more effective than a full wash, which helps preserve the pack’s water resistance.

Compared to my previous everyday carry bags, the Maxpedition Entity 23 CCW-Enabled Laptop Backpack, 23L significantly outperforms them in terms of durability, organization, and discreet CCW capability. The level of organization and the ease of access to various compartments is unmatched.
