Let’s Talk About Firefield Agility 1x30mm Shotgun Dot Sight
The Firefield Agility 1x30mm Shotgun Dot Sight is a compact, lightweight optic designed specifically for shotgun enthusiasts. Manufactured by Firefield, it promises quick target acquisition and versatile performance with its multiple reticle options and red/green illumination. This sight aims to enhance the shotgun user’s experience, offering improved accuracy and faster follow-up shots in various hunting and shooting scenarios.
My journey to the Firefield Agility began with a frustrating dove hunting season. I was missing far too many birds with my old bead sight, needing a faster and more precise aiming solution. Unboxing the Firefield Agility, I was immediately struck by its solid aluminum construction and surprisingly light weight. The matte black finish gives it a tactical look, and the included flip-up lens caps are a nice touch.
Compared to similar red dot sights, like the Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 (often used on AR platforms) and the Vortex Crossfire Red Dot (a more general-purpose optic), the Firefield Agility stood out due to its dedicated shotgun mount and reticle options. I ultimately chose the Firefield for its tailored design and features built around shotgun use. My initial excitement was tempered with a bit of skepticism – could a sight at this price point truly deliver the performance I was seeking?
Real-World Testing: Putting Firefield Agility 1x30mm Shotgun Dot Sight to the Test
First Use Experience
I took the Firefield Agility to my local sporting clays range for its initial trial. Mounting it on my Remington 870 was straightforward, thanks to the included shotgun mount. The range conditions were typical: sunny, with a slight breeze. The
Acquiring the target was noticeably faster than with the bead sight I was used to. It only took me a few rounds to adjust to the different reticle options, settling on the red dot for its clarity and visibility against the orange clays. After about 50 rounds, I noticed that the sight picture remained crisp.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Firefield Agility has proven to be surprisingly durable. It has withstood the recoil of countless shotgun rounds. There are no visible signs of wear and tear beyond minor cosmetic scratches. Cleaning the lens is simple, and the battery life has been acceptable (I’m still on the original CR2032).
Compared to my previous attempts with holographic sights on shotguns (which often failed due to recoil), the Firefield Agility has been a pleasant surprise. It has definitely outperformed my expectations. It maintains zero well and offers a clear sight picture.
