I’ve always been on the hunt for a stock that truly felt like my rifle. As a left-handed shooter using a right-handed action (due to availability and preference), finding a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing stock has been a persistent challenge. Most left-handed stocks assume a left-handed action, leaving me to make do with ambidextrous or even right-handed stocks, neither of which are ideal.
Unboxing the stock, I was immediately impressed by the rich, warm tones of the nutmeg laminate. The weight felt substantial, lending a sense of quality and durability, far surpassing the factory synthetic stock I was replacing. The finish was smooth and even, promising a comfortable grip and a refined appearance.
Compared to a standard synthetic stock and an aftermarket ambidextrous laminate, the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Classic Weatherby VG Long Action Left Hand Stock Right Hand Action Factory Barrel Channel stood out. The factory stock felt cheap and flimsy, while the ambidextrous laminate lacked the ergonomic refinement I craved; the Boyds offering promised a tailored fit and a significant aesthetic improvement. My excitement was palpable; this felt like the missing piece to complete my rifle.
