The Nextorch Camping Lantern promises to be a compact and reliable light source for various outdoor activities. Made by Nextorch, this lantern is designed to run on a single AA battery, offering portability and ease of use. I’ve spent over a decade navigating the ins and outs of tactical and outdoor gear, and I’m constantly searching for dependable lighting solutions.

I was on the hunt for a lightweight lantern to add to my bug-out bag. I wanted something that wouldn’t weigh me down but could still provide ample light in a pinch. I was particularly drawn to the AA battery operation, as these batteries are easy to find and store.

Upon unboxing, the Nextorch Camping Lantern felt surprisingly sturdy for its size. The plastic body seemed durable, and the adjustable bail felt solid enough to handle various hanging positions. The magnetic base was a welcome surprise, promising versatile mounting options.

I considered several similar lanterns, including models from Streamlight and Black Diamond. Real-World Testing: Putting Nextorch Camping Lantern to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the Nextorch Camping Lantern during a weekend camping trip in the Angeles National Forest. I used it to light up my tent and surrounding campsite after dark. The lantern was hung from the tent’s center hook, providing a soft, diffused light.

The lantern performed admirably in the mild weather conditions. The 70 lumens of light output were sufficient for navigating the campsite and performing tasks inside the tent. The adjustable bail allowed me to direct the light where I needed it most, and the magnetic base proved useful for attaching the lantern to my vehicle’s roof for wider area illumination. I immediately noticed that the light wasn’t as bright as other lanterns I’ve used, but the runtime on a single AA battery was reassuring.

I didn’t experience any significant issues during the first use. The lantern was easy to operate, and I appreciated the simple on/off switch. I was surprised by the even distribution of light considering the single LED inside.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of use, the Nextorch Camping Lantern has proven to be a reliable addition to my gear. I’ve used it on numerous camping trips, backpacking excursions, and even during power outages at home. It consistently provides dependable light without any issues.

The lantern has held up well to the rigors of outdoor use. There are a few minor scratches on the plastic body, but the overall construction remains solid. The battery compartment is secure and has not shown any signs of corrosion.

Maintaining the Nextorch Camping Lantern is incredibly simple. I occasionally wipe it down with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. The battery is easily replaced, and I haven’t had to perform any other maintenance.

Compared to my previous experiences with larger, multi-battery lanterns, the Nextorch offers a significant advantage in terms of portability. While it doesn’t provide the same level of brightness as some higher-powered models, its lightweight design and long battery life make it a valuable tool for any outdoor enthusiast. However, I do wish the light was a little brighter.
