The AMS Retriever Pro Combo Kit offers a complete bowfishing setup, designed to get anglers on the water quickly and efficiently. Manufactured by AMS, a respected name in bowfishing, this kit combines essential gear into a single, convenient package. I was drawn to this kit because I wanted a dedicated bowfishing setup that was reliable and ready to go without piecing together individual components.
Upon unboxing, I immediately noticed the robust construction of the AMS Retriever Pro reel and the quality feel of the fiberglass arrows. The kit felt substantial and well-made. Compared to some cheaper, generic bowfishing kits I’ve seen, this one exuded a sense of durability and thoughtful design. My initial impression was excitement; this looked like a serious tool for serious bowfishing.
Real-World Testing: Putting AMS Retriever Pro Combo Kit to the Test
First Use Experience
My first experience with the AMS Retriever Pro Combo Kit was on a local river known for its carp population. The conditions were typical for late spring – a bit breezy with water that was slightly murky. I immediately appreciated the intuitive nature of the AMS Retriever Pro reel; its design allowed for quick and easy line retrieval, which is crucial when bowfishing.
The Tidal Wave rest provided a stable platform for the arrow, minimizing wobble and improving accuracy. One minor issue I noticed was a slight learning curve in getting the hang of the AMS Safety Slide Brand Arrow Slide, but after a few practice shots, it became second nature.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of consistent use, the AMS Retriever Pro Combo Kit has held up remarkably well. The AMS Retriever Pro reel continues to function flawlessly, and the dacron line shows no signs of fraying or wear. The fiberglass arrows are surprisingly durable, even after multiple impacts with rocks and submerged objects.
Cleaning the reel after each use is simple, requiring only a quick rinse with fresh water. Compared to my previous experiences with less robust bowfishing setups, the AMS Retriever Pro Combo Kit has significantly exceeded my expectations in terms of durability and performance.
