Qad PSE UltraRest Review

Let’s Dive into Qad PSE UltraRest

The Qad PSE UltraRest is a drop-away arrow rest designed specifically for PSE bows. This rest, manufactured by Qad, promises total arrow containment, full fletching clearance, and anti-vibration technology. It aims to deliver quieter, more accurate shots for archers of all skill levels.

I recently upgraded my PSE compound bow and was immediately plagued by inconsistent arrow flight. My old whisker biscuit rest, while reliable, was clearly impacting my fletchings and costing me accuracy at longer ranges. The promise of total arrow containment and drop-away technology of the Qad PSE UltraRest seemed like the perfect solution to improve my consistency and extend my effective range.

Upon unboxing, the Qad PSE UltraRest felt solid and well-constructed. The curved capture bar looked like it would genuinely provide fletching clearance. The thumb wheel seemed easy to use for cocking the launcher arm, and the overall design gave the impression of a high-quality, precision piece of archery equipment.

I considered the Ripcord Code Red and the Trophy Ridge Whisker Biscuit V-Max, but ultimately, the Qad PSE UltraRest’s specific compatibility with PSE bows and its reputation for silent operation swayed me. The Ripcord felt a bit bulky, and I wanted to move away from whisker biscuits altogether. The Qad PSE UltraRest seemed like the best fit for my needs.

My first impression was excitement tempered with a bit of apprehension. I was eager to see if it lived up to the hype, but also a little worried about the installation process and the potential for tuning challenges. This rest carries a price of $123.79, so this is a considered purchase.

Real-World Testing: Putting Qad PSE UltraRest to the Test

First Use Experience

I tested the Qad PSE UltraRest at my local archery range, which has both indoor and outdoor shooting lanes. I primarily shot at distances ranging from 20 to 60 yards, focusing on group size and consistency. The weather was dry and mild, ideal for initial setup and fine-tuning.

The Qad PSE UltraRest performed exceptionally well under ideal conditions. The drop-away action was smooth and consistent, and I immediately noticed an improvement in my arrow flight. There was no noticeable fletching contact, and my groups tightened up considerably, especially at the longer distances.

The initial setup took a little longer than expected. The instructions were clear, but fine-tuning the rest’s position to ensure proper arrow clearance required some patience. Once properly adjusted, however, the UltraRest was incredibly easy to use, and the thumb wheel made cocking the launcher arm simple and intuitive.

The only initial issue was a slight metallic “twang” sound upon release. This was easily remedied with a small piece of felt strategically placed on the launcher arm.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of regular use, the Qad PSE UltraRest has proven to be a reliable and consistent performer. It has held its zero well, and the drop-away action remains smooth and dependable. I have used it in a variety of weather conditions, including light rain and dusty environments, without any noticeable degradation in performance.

The Qad PSE UltraRest shows minimal signs of wear and tear. The launcher arm and capture bar are holding up well. The finish is durable and resistant to scratches.

Maintenance is straightforward. A quick wipe-down with a damp cloth after each shooting session is all that’s needed to keep it clean. I also apply a small amount of lubricant to the pivot points of the launcher arm every few weeks to ensure smooth operation.

Compared to my previous whisker biscuit rest, the Qad PSE UltraRest is a significant upgrade. The increased accuracy and consistency, combined with the silent operation, make it a superior choice for target shooting and hunting. I’ve already seen tighter groupings and confidence in my arrow flight with this rest.

• Curved Capture Bar: This is specifically designed to provide total fletching clearance. The curved design ensures that fletchings pass through without contact, further improving accuracy and reducing noise.
• Thumb Wheel Cocking Mechanism: The launcher arm can be easily cocked using the thumb wheel. This is a simple and intuitive mechanism that allows for quick and easy arrow loading.
• Anti-Vibration Technology: The Qad PSE UltraRest incorporates anti-vibration technology. This reduces noise and vibration during the shot, resulting in a quieter and more stealthy shooting experience.
