SCOAT 17SB02BK SLIDE BOOT COMPACT BLK Review

Let’s Dive into SCOAT 17SB02BK SLIDE BOOT COMPACT BLK

The SCOAT 17SB02BK SLIDE BOOT COMPACT BLK from Scopecoat is a simple yet effective solution for protecting your handgun’s slide from scratches, dust, and other potential damage. This compact slide boot, crafted from neoprene, promises to keep your firearm in pristine condition during storage and transport. After years of seeing fine finishes marred by careless handling and storage, I was keen to test this seemingly basic, but potentially vital, piece of gear.

For years, I’ve relied on gun socks and hard cases to safeguard my firearms. However, these solutions can be bulky and impractical for quick storage in a safe or range bag. The SCOAT 17SB02BK SLIDE BOOT COMPACT BLK offered a more streamlined approach, promising protection without the added bulk.

Upon unboxing, I immediately appreciated the simplicity of the design. The Scopecoat slide boot is essentially a fitted sleeve made of neoprene, similar to a wetsuit material. The build quality felt solid, with clean stitching and a snug fit that inspired confidence.

I considered other options, such as silicone gun socks, but they lacked the form-fitting design of the Scopecoat. Hard plastic slide covers seemed too rigid and potentially damaging if not perfectly aligned. The SCOAT 17SB02BK SLIDE BOOT COMPACT BLK appeared to strike a perfect balance between protection and convenience.

My first impression was one of cautious optimism. I was excited by the potential for a simple, effective solution to protect my handguns, but I was also wary of potential issues like lint buildup or a fit that was too tight. The proof, as they say, would be in the testing.

Real-World Testing: Putting SCOAT 17SB02BK SLIDE BOOT COMPACT BLK to the Test

First Use Experience

My first test of the SCOAT 17SB02BK SLIDE BOOT COMPACT BLK involved several handguns during a range trip. I applied the slide boots to a Glock 19, a Sig Sauer P320, and a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield before placing them in my range bag. The slide boots slipped on easily, providing a secure fit without being overly tight.

The Scopecoat performed admirably in the dusty environment of the outdoor range. Upon returning home, I removed the slide boots and found that the handgun slides were noticeably cleaner compared to the unprotected areas. The Scopecoat effectively repelled dust and debris, preventing them from scratching the finish.

The ease of use was a definite plus. No fumbling or struggling was required to install or remove the slide boots, making them a convenient addition to my range gear. There were no immediate issues after the first use; the slide boots maintained their shape and fit perfectly.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of use, the SCOAT 17SB02BK SLIDE BOOT COMPACT BLK has proven to be a reliable and durable accessory. I’ve used it in various conditions, including hot, humid days and cold, dry weather, and the Scopecoat has consistently performed well.

There are minimal signs of wear and tear, even after repeated use. The neoprene material has retained its elasticity and shape, and the stitching remains intact. Regular cleaning involves simply wiping down the Scopecoat with a damp cloth, making maintenance a breeze.
