Let’s Dive into ESS Crosshair 2X Ballistic Eyeshields Kit – Clear, Smoke Grey
The ESS Crosshair 2X Ballistic Eyeshields Kit – Clear, Smoke Grey, manufactured by ESS, promises a blend of robust eye protection and comfortable wear for various tactical and outdoor activities. Boasting compliance with stringent ANSI and U.S. Military impact standards, alongside compatibility with ESS’s Cross-Series platform, this kit appears to be a versatile option for anyone prioritizing eye safety. I was looking for a reliable eye protection solution for both bright daylight and low-light conditions during shooting and tactical training exercises.
Having experienced inadequate eye protection in the past, I sought a kit with interchangeable lenses and a proven track record of ballistic resistance. The ESS Crosshair 2X kit seemed to offer that and more. My initial thoughts revolved around its seemingly streamlined design and the promise of distortion-free optics.
I previously used a basic pair of shooting glasses with fixed lenses, and another set of goggles that fogged up easily. I chose the ESS Crosshair 2X kit because of ESS’s reputation for quality and the convenience of having both clear and smoke lenses included. The prospect of a secure and comfortable fit also played a significant role in my decision.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. The packaging seemed robust, and the included accessories hinted at a well-thought-out product. I was eager to test its claims in real-world scenarios.
Real-World Testing: Putting ESS Crosshair 2X Ballistic Eyeshields Kit – Clear, Smoke Grey to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial field test involved a day at an outdoor shooting range. I began with the clear lenses in the early morning, transitioning to the smoke grey lenses as the sun climbed higher. The ESS Crosshair 2X performed admirably under both lighting conditions.
The eyeshields were exposed to muzzle blast, flying brass, and general range debris, and they held up without any issues. The clear lens provided crisp, unobstructed vision, while the smoke grey lens effectively reduced glare without distorting colors. The fit was snug but comfortable, even with ear protection.
I found the ESS Crosshair 2X easy to put on and take off, and the lenses were simple to swap. I experienced no fogging or slippage during several hours of use. My first impressions were largely positive.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the ESS Crosshair 2X has proven to be a dependable piece of gear. I’ve used it during various activities, including hiking, airsoft games, and more range sessions. It’s endured a fair amount of abuse without significant wear and tear.
The lenses have resisted scratching reasonably well, thanks to the ToughZone Lens Coating. The frame still fits securely and comfortably. Cleaning the lenses is a breeze using the included microfiber pouch, and I’ve had no issues with the retention strap loosening over time.
Compared to my previous experiences with inferior eye protection, the ESS Crosshair 2X has been a significant upgrade. It provides superior clarity, comfort, and peace of mind. It clearly outperforms cheaper alternatives.
