It's more likely that they'll replace it rather than repair it. I have a 622 VR and the slide developed a problem with a few rust spots coming up from under the finnish. I'm sure it was a factory defect due to improper surface prep. I sent the gun back to S&W and they installed a new slide. Problem solved. BTW, these guns were made at the S&W plant in Houlton Maine, not Springfield MA. I also have a model 2204 and the slides are interchangeable.
