hello ..your winchester was made in 1934 and when you say it's splitting the caseings,, where is it splitting them at? the neck the rim at the throat where the bullet goes in? does the ammo have any corrosion on it ?what do the primers look like? is there any signs of cratering on the primers?that looks just like it sounds,,alot of reload ammo will split cases especially if it's been reloaded many times ,,because the brass streches and at some point it can't take the resizing any longer ,,are you useing reloads or factory ammo?,,all of these could be a reason for case splitting,,also a hot reload could cause trouble ,,if really old ammo and with signs of corrosion this could also be a problem,,i don't think theres a headspace problem ,,but ya never know and you will usually see signs of bad headspace on the primers or the face of the rim,,also are you sure your useing the right ammo? i know thats a stupid question but the 94's were chambered for alot of cartridges and 30-30 and 32 wcf are very simular but a different calibers and would cause problems like your saying..just some food for thought.. also check the cases where there splitting and then check the chamber in the aera ,,if the rifle hasn't been shot in awhile you may have some rust or dirt in the chamber aera causing excessive pressure,,is there any problems ejecting the cases after fireing?

thanks for the feed back bigcurt and no all i heve fired out of it have been winchester 30/30 rounds but a buddy of mine gave me a hand full or roumds cant remember what kind they were i was thinkn that might hane been the problem. I dont have a problem with it ejecting the shell. i did have a problem with the shell sliding under the lever that brings the shell up to the barrel and having to remove the lever to retreive the live round. As far as the shells go ther spliting right at the bottle kneck n its only in that area about a eighth of a inch.I would also like to know the value of it so i can repair whatever is wrong with it or if it would take away from its value.

hello and thanks for the info,,i've seen alot of case splits at the necks caused from old ammo ,,sometimes if ya don't know how old it is it's better to dispose of it because ya never know who may have loaded it and if they did it properly,,can cause major problems ,,i don't think i have ever saw a winchester with a headspace problem,,so it's proably just a minor thing,,have you tried some of your newer ammo and is it splitting in the same places?i'd definatly give it a good cleaning especially in the neck aera of the chamber and try some newer ammo..as for value it's worth between 350 to proably around the 700+ mark if in decent condition..another question for you is ,,did it do the same thing before you took it apart?or has it started since the teardown? headspace will usually show on the rim face and can look squashed and the letters on the rim may look flattened or the primer will show a small crater ring around where the fireing pin hits it,,these are tell tale signs of excesive pressure and there a problem that needs attention,,a good gunsmith will be able to check it for you,,but i think if it never gave you simular problems before it could possibly be just an ammo issue..

Thanks again and other than the firing pin hitting a little off center there ir no other markings on the face of the shell. Every thing works smoothly on it and i need to fire some new rounds and get back to you on that after a good cleaning.I was looking at the spring that reloads the shell and it looks to be worn. I was wondering if that would cause the live round to go into the lever area.
