I have a late 80's Winchester Ranger 30-30 and it has no recoil pad. I love the gun and I want to shoot it more, but I cannot find a recoil pad. I'm not a gun smith so I really want a direct mount that is made for this gun. Can anyone help?

try a search for pachmar recoil pads ..i beleive they make custom fit and i know there one of the best looking and funcional pads available,,butler creek also makes recoil pads,,recoil pads aren't that hard to install and some will require final fitting to stock,,which involves taping the stock with removable masking tape at least 3-4 layers thick because the pad will have to be sanded to fit exact buttsock dimensions ,,care must be taken if trying it yourself so you don't sand into or thru the tape or slip past where its covering the stock ,,but it can be a do it your self project in most cases ..a gunsmith will usually charge between 20-35 dollars + the price of the pad to install on your rifle and usually takes him anound an hour..so if you have douts or have a expencive gun you should just let a pro install it,,but check pachmar out and even look over on Brownells.com and look under recoil pads in the index and see if they have a bolt on no sanding pad available before you start grinding or sanding,,brownells have just about all of the parts and peices for replaceing or repairs,,and most gunsmiths use them regularly,, also if you can get a part number from pachmar or brownells you might find one cheaper on ebay ,,i beleive there not a restricted gun part,,try a search there of "recoil pads"you could also go the slip on route where you do not have to change anything just slip the pad over the existing buttplate and then you could remove it after shooting ,,this doesn't take away from the original look of the rifle and cost about 10-20 bucks and are availabe at most dept stores that have a sporting goods section,,may be your easiest and cheapest way to go
