Yesterday I inherited a Winchester Model 94, serial # 88603. The charts say is was made in 1897. Is this right? Approximate worth?

Thanks in advance.....

hi scott,
my sources give the same date, 1897. value will depend on many varibles i.e. condition, model, etc. given the age of this great rifle i'ld suggest a hands-on appraisel done by an insurance adjuster. value could be considerabel....JMHO

Serial Number 76464 was the end of production in 1896 and serial number 111453 was the end of production in 1897. So if you have 86603 it would seem that it was produced in 1897. Do you have any paper work on it? As for value it depends entirely on condition. Whatever you do do not "...try to clean it up" leave it in untouched condition until it can be seen. I would like to see it and if it is in expected condition for that age I might want to buy it. I am a private individual not a dealer. I have found that depending on condition they can go from $1,500.00 to $5,000.00 or a little north of that.
