My sugestion is to get on the internet and look-up "Winchester Model70XTR Rifle Serial Numbers", there is a web page that has a fairly extensive list that includes your rifle if it was manufactured prior to Jan.1982, In other words Jan.'81 thru Dec.'81(As the XTR Featherweight was introduced in the 70 model line in 1981). As far as value(price),goes last year(2009) I bought a rifle very similiar to yours(.30-06,XTR F'weight), in like-new condition(it had the factory hang-tag still on it), at Cabela's for $599. I really didn't know much about the Winchester"pre-USRAC",if you want to call it that. Later on I've deduced that my rifle was likely manufactured some time in Mar./Apr. of 1981. Serial numbers for these rifles(XTR F'weights),are included with their counterparts(XTR's),however using some monthly production avereges you should be able to narrow it down. XTR F'weights made between Jan.'81-July'81 seem to sell for substantially more(OLIN Winchester/Western), as opposed respectfully to(USRAC/Winchester),Aug.'81 on. If your has a red recoil pad w/black spacer and it appears to be original and untampered with it should have the words"Winchester Repeating Rifle"on it. Currently they're selling for $1000/1,200. I really don't care about the value, I freakin' love 'em,and the early(78-81)XTR's,and they are great shooters.
