I just got a wichester model 1895 from my father and i was just wondering what it was worth. It reads that it is a army repeater and the last patent date on it is 1905. It appears to be in good working condition I want to fire it but am worried it will drop the value. Can someone please inform me.

hello army model 1895's are very collectable and for a correct army musket values could be as high as 2500-5000 depending on the condition,,whats the barrel lenght??..the army musket had a 28" round barrel with a longer stock than the normal 1895 rifle and should be US marked ,,and should be chambered for the 30-40 krag ammo ,,it may be marked 30 gov or 30 US caliber ,,then there were also NRA army models ,,these have a 30" barrel and the musket lenght stock,,the standard model had a 24 or 28" barrel and shorter half stocks ,,and also there was a carbine lenght model with a 22" barrel and short half stock,,

,,as for shooting it ,,i would if it was in good working condition with the proper ammo..why not ? are you contemplating selling it?if so then mabey not ..if your gonna keep it have it checked out by a gunsmith and if he says it's ok to shoot.. take it out and blow the dust outa it ..it's your gun and you should do with it as you want ,,lifes too short to look at it the rest of your natural days

hello,,the pic helps ,,it looks as though the buttstock may have been changed at some time because of the different color stains but it's possible they didn't match exactly from the get go,,it is a musket model because of the stock lenght ,,and i beleive it could be a army musket because of the bayonet lug on the front band ,,the metal finish looks good for this old of a winchester from what i can see,,the only problem i see is the wood finish ,,it may be more the pic and the lighting but the front doesn't look like it matches the rear ..the rear looks darker ,,value should still be around 2000+ at auction or to a collector ,,and mabey more in the right situation or with proper documentation ,, this rifle may have been one of the ones used in the spanish american war and it may pay to have it researched by the cody museum for historical value ,,i beleive they charge a slight fee of around 40 bucks for background information on winchester rifles but the information you receive may be very profitable when selling with proper documentation on where the rifle may have been used or sold to ,,info for them is Cody Firearms Research, C/O Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, Wyoming 82414, Phone: (307) 587-4771. i'd seriously think about getting it researched and who knows who may have touched this rifle before you got it .and if this rifle has history the values just go up!!!
