hi trigger,
by the s/n you gave, your shotgun was manufactured in 1941. value should be in the $500 - $600 range, JMHO

hi trigger,
you should be able to trade for a rifle and decent scope without a problem. my personal choice would be an older winchester model 70. the value of a pre'64 would be compareable to your shotgun. but remington, ruger, savage, browning etc. all make very good deer rifles. you didn't say what type rifle you where interested in. bolt, lever, auto.....

kim, thanks for the advice. I am looking for a rifle for relatively shorter range 100 to 150 yds max. we hunt in the marsh area of louisiana. i had a 30-06 and didn't like it. would prefer a bolt action. was thinking about a 243 but not sure if that would be enough knock down power. your thoughts are appreciated. trigger

hi trigger,
a 243 has ample knockdown power but in my oppinion a 308 would be a better choice. my wife shoots a 308 rem 7400 here in north florida mainly because she has a habit of closing her eyes when the gun goes bang and when she opens them the deer has run off. she kills all of them but she wanted a rifle that would make them drop in their tracks, thus the 308. you may know this but a 243 is a necked down 308. so personally my advise would be for a remington model 7 in 308, or simular rifle, as short as a carbine and plenty of punch. hope this helps.

this may seem nosey, but what part of LA. i spent 39 months at polk and have friends in sulfer and hackberry.

kim, thanks for the advice. i shot a borrowed 308 years ago with good results. sorry to hear you served time at polk. not the prettest place in la. we hunt out of black bayou marina in gibson, la. that is between morgan city and houma in terrebonne parish. we are a one hour ride by water to our lease where we stay on a houseboat. primarily we hunt waterfoul but after the huricanes we have a good deer population. no good horns but plenty of camp meat. also have rabbits, fresh and salt fish and many big gators. trigger.
