Winchester Model 12, 16 gauge

Serial Number 1646642. Anyone know the vintage/value of this shotgun? How can I remove the choke?

your md 12 was made in 1957 and value for md.12's these days has dropped in my part of the country ..i'd say it's worth between 300-450 for a standard grade model in good-vg original condition..

what kind of choke is in it ? i don't think the md 12 had screw in chokes from the factory,,if yours does i'd say someone has had them installed at some time ,,possibly they may be a cutts compensator choke system or a lyman choke tube system,,they should be marked on the tube ,,these were quite common in the 50"s and they should just screw off i beleive..at least the ones i've seen were just threaded on .. in any event the addition of aftermarket chokes will proably detract from the value of an original md 12 to a md 12 collector..

IT says "MOD" on the barrel. I was assuming that was a choke.

yes it is a modified choke barrel but the choke is fixed and canot be removed ,,unles you have a gunsmith install different chokes and this will detract from the collectability of it ,,this is one reason i beleive the older shotguns are not as popular as the newer screw in choke guns ,,your limited to either buying more barrels to get different chokes for different feild situations,,or having to install an aftermarketstyle choke system like i talked about in the preivious post,,or a poly choke system which is adjustable for different choke patterns ..
