hello again,,The stock markings denote a defence eagle proof common on the Korean war rebuilds,,The P proof is a proof stamped after assembly and will be sometimes inside a circle or have serifs on the P,,
,,,The barrel should be marked in the stock window when you open the slide,,pull the slide back and look in the groove where the stock meets the upper handguard,,should be some markings..if there aren't any numbers or letters visiable then there is a chance it may be a winchester barrel,, but further dissasemble would be nessasary to verify this ,,if mrmory serves me correct Winchester marked there barrels with a W under the upper handguard or on the left side ,,"thats if it's not marked on the right op rod side" ,,the trigger houseing should be maker marked also,,have you had the rifle apart? it's a pretty easy procedure and if you do a search online for dissassembling an m1 garand you will find many sites to walk you thru the procedure,,pretty simple and no tools should be nessasary ,,
,,,,Just about every internal part and external part will be marked somehow showing who made it ,,Winchester used punchmarks on small parts that couldn't be stamped W.R.A.,,the number beside the maker is the drawing number for each part and should be something like D2829 then it will have the makers initials like W.R.A. for Winchester,,SA ,, for Springfeilds,,I.H for International Harvester ,,or H+R for Harrington and Richardson,, then theres usually a revision number like -12 so a Springfeild part might look something like this D2829-SA-12
,,, google "markings on an M1 Garand" or just "M1 garand" I know there are many sites out there devoted to the Garand if ya look around with tons of info,, there are also many great books you can purchase on the Garand,,one is the M1 garand by Joe Poyer heres a link..great for id'ing the parts and
