What would the value of Model 1892 s/n 332xx and what year was it made. Good cond. This gun belong to my grandfather and he did some dealing out west with some tribes in New Mexico. Was just interested if he could have got it there. He never mentioned it. Found it in his things.

hi jwhite,
your rifle was made in 1893, as for value i'ld need the condition, caliber, barrel length and anything else you can tell me. it'll probly be worth having a professional appraisal due to its age, it could be very valuable. JMHO

Thanks for the help, Kim. The barrel is almost 24 in. and it a 38 CFW. I It has some pitting and wear, but for over 100 year it's looks good. I think it would be fully functional but I wouldn't shoot it. Any idea of the range on worth. I probably wouldn't sell it, but for insurance. Jeff

hi jeff,
you're looking at 1600 - 2000 at a minimum. i've found a couple in 38 cfw but none as old as yours. you're probly right about shooting it. it'ld probly work well, you should try and find some ammo for it just to make a complete set. he may have got it in new mexico. the 38 cfw was a good mule deer caliber. if your going to have it insured the agent should know someone who could do a profession appraisel. check out this site about the 92. for a rifle of the 92's legacy you've got one made in the second year of production.

hi jeff,
ammo shouldn't be hard to find, winchester 38-40 ammo is the same as 38 WCF. ableammo.com has some although it's fairly expensive.
