Hello all-
First time on board- any help would be welcome. I just got a Winchester Model 92 mfg. in 1903 in caliber 38-40. It has 24" round barrel, 1/2 magazine, and Kings rear sight. Condition? I'd be conservative and say it was fair. One problem- someone put a newer model 1895 butt stock on it and it's chipped. I'd like to know if and where I could find a correct replacement rear stock and what you guys think it'd be worth.

THX-

your winchester 92 sounds like the "fancy sporting rifle" variation and current book values in fair condition is 2500 in poor condition the value is 1000.. and they go up from those condition grades..as for a stock ..my advice would be to check out local gun shows..but you could try gun parts corp or even look on ebay or gunbrokers.com or auction arms..sometimes they surface on the auction sites and sometimes people don't even know there winchester stocks,,i've forund many hard to find stocks on ebay listed as unknown rifle stocks..it's just some suggestions ..you could also proably check out some of the new replacement stock makers like Boyds or do a search online of "92 winchester stock" or mabey "winchester rifle stock"..you should find possibly original and replacements that way..

Thanks a lot. I didn't think it was a bad deal at $350.

yes that was an excellent deal ,,and as long as its functional they demand the big bucks to collectors,,most old winchester will be used and even abused.. but to collectors "use" means originality and sometime condition doesn't matter as much as originality..
