I like Wideners prices but will never deal with them again for several reasons. Their webpage has been 'under construction' for some time now and it is hell to navigate. The first time I called them, I had a question about a product and the lady who answered was very courteous. I placed my order online but didn't hear back from them within 24 hours regarding the shipping costs (which they are supposed to e-mail) so I called again. This time I spoke with a woman who was very curt...she asked for my zip code and name and then told me my items (8 lb Hodgdon TiteGroup and 5000 Federal small pistol primers) were out-of-stock. She was about to hang up before I got in a couple more questions: 'So are they on back order and if so, how long will it take to get them in?' She said, 'We don't keep track of that. Try back in 3-4 weeks.' I said, 'So will I have to place my order again?' 'Yes.' [Conversation ends.] No 'good afternoon', no 'yes sir', no 'sorry', 'thank you', no 'goodbye.' Does anyone know a good powder/primer

Are there any places to pick up the powder and primers locally as the hazzard shipping costs are very expensive ? Not sure about now but they used not to send the primers and powder in the same box (not just winders, all of them) and you got hit twice for the haz/mat charge. If there are any gun showes in your area T&T would sell you the items on line or over the phone and bring them to the show and you saved state tax and shipping.

#Does anyone know a good powder/primer # supplier?
I buy all of my reloading supplies at a local gun show. Buy the time you pay haz-mat fees for shipping from a mail order supplier, you're paying twice what you would from a gun show.

Disclaimer: I have NO idea what service from this place is like, as I've not ordered from them yet. However comma ....They seem to have a good selection of new & surplus powders, and they actually carry (or at least list) #41& #34 primers, if you're into that sort of thing. I figure I'll give them a shot next time I do some ordering. I'll post here on how it went:

I really like Midway for reloading components other shooting supplies. I try to buy my powder and primers locally since the hazardous material charge is $25 and a signer has to be present for delivery.

Well, I wouldn't go quite that far. Unless you're buying 1 pound cannisters, no way is it twice the price.
Take an 8 pound keg of Clays from Graf & Sons that currently runs $109.99. With the $20 hazmat it comes to a firm price of $129.99 (no shipping).
Don't know what the current price is from the local gunshows, but let's go with $100 for the equivalent in the San Francisco region. Seems like a slam dunk since it's 30% cheaper. However, adding in an $8 ticket price and $8 parking fee (I did mention we're in San Francisco), the difference is only $14, or a difference of about 12%.
Still a savings, but it's predicated on 1) the assumed price of $100, 2) the powder being in stock, 3) no taxes (8.75%), and 4) you don't go crazy on impulse buying at the show.
On another note re. gunpowder, does anybody besides me worry about getting what they're paying for at the shows? I.e., weight, type, etc.

They have great service (bought a Co-Ax press from them a while back and a bunch of other tools), but evidently someone is using their web site as a JavaScript class project. More so, they've been doing it for almost a year now.

They've always been rude to me. That surplus 8mm was crap crap crap too. It's all how management treats their employees. I'd like a tour of Brownell's and then a tour of Wideners. It would make sense then.

I don't know about you, but for me, gun show admission price is a sunk cost. I am going to be paying that whether I buy powder or not, so I don't think it's quite fair to compare it against the final cost. Admittedly I am a gun show junkie, though.

Well, you are paying for the convenience of taking it home with you, plus no bother having to arrange to be home for the UPS guy. I do pay taxes on the powder I buy. Then again, the shows don't really sell powder any cheaper than the local gun shop. It might be a different story if you could pay one hazmat fee for a large order of primers, powder, etc., but last I understood they won't let you do that.

It never occurred to me, mostly I suppose because I buy from a reputable dealer. I don't even give those mason jars with handwritten labels on some tables a second glance.
