This was sent to me today and i just wanted to share with all.

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to and including my life.” That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

UPDATE: The admin added the following

This is so right… Once “someone” said Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You - I wonder how many people think this way today…

Great truth in that statement. Too many people consider only themselves in life. It’s always soboring for me to be reminded of the sacrafice of our vetrans. (our real Heros) A great reminder that some still consider other as important as themselves.

I think a lot of people don’t appreciate the shear magnitude of the sacrifice.

here in ontario canada, being a grey haired baby boomer i have never been asked to go to war.my father tried to enlist for the second world war but was 4-f my grandfather fought in the first war lied about his age went in at 15 and was lucky to return home at 20. gramps would never speak of the war wntil he had a few vokas under his belt. ever as a young child of ten i could see the pain that would come into his eyes as well as the emotion in his voice. i cannot amagine now at 61 years of age what a 15 year old boy had to over come in regards to the horrors of war. once canada was a very resected country and had a very strong armforces sadly today we are not. we are regarded as having very good peace keeping forces but i do believe our noble young men and women are under gunned undermaned in afgaistand. i don’t want to sound like a biget or an archie bunker but i truly believe when thousands of immagants came to our country they brought their beliefs and problems with them. don’t get me wrong when my forefathers come to canada we became canadians taking english as our native tongues learning canadian history believing in the lords prayer in our school systems knowing the was a santa claus, resecting our elders and the part of keeping the memories of our past and present veterrans alive thanks for letting me ramble, a proud canadian suitty

Sad about you grandfather - the say the the most vulnerable age for pts is the teen years - so, since that wasn’t something that was recognized at the time as a problem, he probably had no help at all in dealing with it. It really commands respect that he was able to keep it together enough to raise a family and lead a productive life.

The media in this nation are the biggest reason the words Duty, Honor and Country are found in the vocabulary of so few of our citizens any more. They’ll spend weeks glorifying a suicidal maniac that shoots dozens of kids at a school and force feed the viewers every detail of their miserable life until their name becomes a household word, however when a young marine is awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor postuminously for throwing himself on a hand grenade to save 5 of his commades in arms, he doesn’t even rate an honorable mention, except to be added to the media’s precious body count total reported with pride on a daily basis. Personally I would rather my kids and grand kids hear about how that young marine grew up to become the hero who scarificed his life in a heart beat to save those of his fellow man.

I am a Viet Nam era U.S.Navy Vet. I tried, when my kids were young, to enstill a respect for God & country. Now that 2 of the 3 are parents, themselves, I find them telling thier kids the same things!!! Maybe, just maybe, there is still a little hope for the next generation???

Artist1018 I’m a retired Army vet and Purple Heart recipient. I pulled two tours flying choppers in Nam. I’ve done the same with my two boys and I’m proud to say that all my grand children also repect God and Country as well. In my heart I know the core of this country is still made up of solid hard working, honest, American patriots. I just wish they’d be a little more energetic in declaring their position and stand up to the media and all those who think we should be aplogizing to the rest of the world for beleiving in God and the free republic this country was built upon.
