My great uncle has a bolt action Spandau rifle from 1915. It is engraved by the germen soldier who had it says EWL, it was brought back to the states by Herbert A. Johnson on the US ship GM3C5517311 USNR V6 from Normandie on June 6th 1944. Do you know how much this is worth?

hello,,it sounds like you have a mod.98 german mauser sometimes refered to as the G-98,,the bolt handle shoud be straight,,and it should be marked mod.98 or GEW 98 on the left side,,Spandau is the arsenal where it was made and 1915 is the date made,,this is proably a rifle used during the ww1 time line and reissued during ww2 from the provanance you provided ,,so it's been around a few years ,,prices for the g-98 are in the 500 good -1000 excellent range,,but with the history proabaly more at auction or to a mauser collector,,things to look for that will increase the value even more are matching serial numbers on the bolt handle, receiver, stock,,floorplate,,bands and all small parts,,bolt parts may only have the last 3 digits stamped on them but this is correct..if all numbers match and with the provanance you have for it i could easily see it bringing at least 1000-possibly 1500+ on a good auction site to the right collector,,it a very good investment rifle that will only go up in value as time goes on!!
