To all guests, visitors and new members, welcome to the site.

First off. I love to be of help to you. After about the 500th time of having to type the same questions asking about the condition of ‘your’ gun I have decided to just write my own post that I will send out when the information you have given me is insufficient for giving you a reasonable value determination. The range can be thousands of dollars for some rifles.

I deal in old Winchester rifles primarily. The value is determined by the condition of the rifle. MUCH more so than the year it was made. In other words a newer, good condition rifle is worth more than an older gun in poorer condition. That is why I always need to know the condition of your rifle. Things like “good” or “for its age” and “fair” just will not do for me. I have been amazed more than once at what is considered good and what it really is.

So... here is what I want from you. Some of it may not apply depending on how well you wrote your question. And hopefully it was a question.

  • Model Number
  • Serial number
  • Caliber
  • Condition of the metal surface. How much bluing is present? Is it even? Is it rusted? Has it been reblued?
  • Condition of the wood. Chipped? Broken? Resanded? etc.
  • Configuration. Round or octagon barrel? Length of magazine? Checkered or pistol grip stock? Anything missing like sights? Anything added like scopes or extra holes in the receiver?
  • High quality photos. These are a great help. They get me beyond your description and let me see things which you may not recognize as a problem. I have looked at thousands of these rifles. I will not catch everything but have learned to look for tell tale signs. Please try to take the photos without the flash on the camera. All it does is give high glare spots that ruin the rest of the image. Out door open shade, or in front of a big window without direct sunlight is much better. Take three or four of each side of the gun. You can email them to me as it will be easier. Send me a private message and I’ll pass on my email address.

I hope this helps. Don’t be offended if I have sent this to you. I am just trying to serve you as best as possible.

Thanks for your help and patience.

P.S. Please do not comment to this post. Just start a New Topic and list the info I have asked for and some photos and we can go from there.

So... what do you think? Please leave me a comment or give me a
