I just inherited a Winchester 1894 .30 wcf with a saddle ring with serial number 895730. It is in really nice shape except that someone replaced the walnut stock with one of "Birdseye Maple". Can you tell me when it was manufactured and what it is worth with the custome stock? Also what would it be worth with the original stock in good shape? Thanks, John

John,
It is worth didly to any collector as it stands. Probably only slightly more with an "original" type replacement. But it would at least look right. That serial number dates to 1921. If you do some looking around you can find replacement wood. You will have to find the two pieces in the same condition range. BUT, I'll bet if the wood was replaced the metal was reblued. If that is the case, forget it. Sell it for whatever north of $200 you can get. Send me some photos of the barrel address and the caliber markings on the barrel and the model inscrition on the upper tang. I should be able to tell the bluing from that.
