I have a winchester model 70 30-06, which was made in 1956 (serial #378509). What type of bluing process did they use then? Were there several? How do they compare to the bluing processes used today?

Thanks,

Rich

hello ,,i beleive they were tank rust blueing and if done properly results can be very good today,,if your contemplating haveing it done to keep the rifle then go for it but if your thinking about increasing the value for the rifle ..model 70 collectors would pay more of a preimum for the original finish than a shiny new look not original blue,,and a good collector will spot the new blueing as soon as he picks it up,,
