Hello - looking for a ballpark value (New England area USA) for this Colt 1911 45. From what I gather of the serial # [C98xxx] it is a commercial model which was manufactured by Colt in 1917. It has been in my family for 40+ years, never refinished, modified - not fired so far as I know in that time.

Action and parts fit together tight, rifling looks good in barel, interior pieces appear to be all original parts. I have the pair of 2-tone lanyard loop magazines as well.

Searching the net I've seen prices all over the map and mostly for military versions not so much the commercial models, so am very curious what what something like this might sell for.

Like anything, the value is only what someone is willing to pay for it. I had one, where I got prices from $600 to $3000.
You can get book value, or you can find out what a true collector would give you for it.
It might be $2000 in a book, but if all the world would only give you $600, then thats what it's worth.
Here is a link to an expert, send him "clear" pictures and details, and he might evenn make you an offer. http://www.coltautos.com/

Heres a little better picture - my camera, like this pistol, is a bit old.

hello ,,your commercial 1911 in the condition shown would proably bring between 650-1000+ at auction or to a 1911 collector and it wouldn't surprise me if it went nearer to 1500+ ,,i've never seen a early colt 1911 that didn't bring at least 650 and that was mismatched..or refinished.. and with the 2 correct mags i'd say 750 minimum..dealers would insult you if you took it to sell to them and proably say it's worn out and beat up and offer ya 200-300 for it.. but it's better looking like it's been used than brand new..
