hi iceman,
you need to give the S/N but leave the last three digits as XXX. that'll alow me to determine the year of manufacture.

hi,
your rifle was manufactured in 1896. value should be in the 1600 - 2000 range but a professional appraisal would be advisalbe for this firearm.

Have winchester 1892 38-40 with octagon barrel. serial #242xxx. Wondering age and approx value. Gun appears all original except possible newer bead at end of barrel with markings "marble #2". Overall gun is in very nice condition. But and stock appears to have been refinished (a bit too shiny for original finish) and blueing is down to about 20% on main barrel. Probably cleaned too much by previous owner. No rust, very little pitting. Any thoughts.

Disregard part about newer sight. My internet search shows the "marble No. 2 sight is orignal to the 1892 I have.
