value of a pre 64 model 94 Winchester rifle 30/30? The serial dates to 1963. The gun is in overall VG condition. Upon very close (nitpicking) Inspection. I could only find 2 tiny nicks in the stock.I'm talking a few passes w/t #220 grit,And there gone.(NO ! I didn't do that)To my eye the bluing looks good.I see no signs of pitting, If so? Very Minimal. Thanks

Hello,

What is the exact serial number? The reason I ask, is that very few Model 94s were actually manufactured in that year.

In order to properly assess the graded condition (and potential value), we need to see several clear close-up pictures of it.

Guest,

I can't tell from your question wether the rifle does or doesn't have a little bit of pitting. That will be critical to determining the condition of the gun and thus the value. A difference of 5 to 10 percent in the condition can be a couple hundred dollars at least.

Can you post a few good clear, in focus, detail potos of any questionable spots? Please take the photos outdoors without the flash.

Thanks

I'm sorry, but I'm uncomfortable with posting the full serial # on the internet. But you can see in the one pic the # 25825xx ,And there is a ding there I did not previously notice. My camera sucks & daylight is not a option until a few more hours. But my pics seem to have captured any pitting.I can also add that the gun has been in my possion for 30+ years add never fired. I had it checked out by a gunsmith in 07'. He gave it a good bill of health,And mentioned that I should hang on to it. I had no plans to sell it at that time, But he said it would be appreciating in value over the next few years.

Hello nitro,

It is indeed a 1963 vintage Model 94.

Based on what I can see in the pictures you posted, it is in the $500 - $600 range. I am a bit puzzled by the poor fit where the forend stock meets the front of receiver frmae though.

Thanks Bert ! You have a keen eye. There is a slight gap maybe less than a 1/16 just on the bottom where you mention? The sides are both snug fitting. To the best of my knowledge the gun has never been taken apart or fired? Having a vast knowledge of Vintage Guitars I'm aware that even kiln dried wood can shrink over the course of 47 years. Would you believe this to be the case? Or more so, Would a blem like this knock it out of the $500+ price range? Thanks

Hello nitro,

I have handled literary thousnads of old Winchester lever-actions over the past 35-years, and it is extremely unlikely for "shrinkage" to be the cause of the gap. The most likely cause of the gap was improper installation of the forend by someone who removed it. It most certainly did not leave the factory in that position. There is a 50/50 chance that you can simply pull or tap it back into position.

The gun as is is worth $500, and the blemish on the stock can easily be cleaned up to make it look better.

And what is your question? A serial number all by itself is of very little use to us.

Mel,

What is your specific question?

This entire topic string has become overly complicated due to multiple people posting individual questions/information in it. We very much prefer that each person post their question in a New topic posting so that we can avoid the confusion that is created by add-on posts. Please start a brand new topic, ask specific questions, and if possible, post severl clear detailed pictures of your Winchester.

The year of manufacture is indeed 1949. Can you post several clear detailed pictures of the gun?
