Dear Tim
A "Model 93" would not have a 4-digit serial number, so something is amiss here. Before Marlin re-designated the Model of 1893, the serialization was well into six digits.
What does the printing say on the top tang, behind the hammer? What number is stamped on the bottom of the receiver forward of the lever and just behind where the fore stock joins the receiver?
Finally, what is printed on the left side of the barrel, just in front of the receiver as well as just forward of the rear sight dovetail?
With that information, we'll have a place to start.
Pictures would help a great deal!

Hi Tim
I confess, I'm having some problems with this rifle. The serial number has me stymied. It clearly does not work as a 4-digit number. I tried assuming the "C" is actually a zero. That doesn't work either because it puts the manufacture date at 1890.
There are two problems with that: The designation as a Model 93 cannot be on a rifle made that early.
Second, the .32 Winchester Special cartridge was not introduced until 1901.
I'm going to have to try to do some more research into serial numbers with a "C" suffix, but I'm not optimistic that I can find the answer.
The good news is that the "Model 93" designation does square with the .32 caliber chambering.
It appears that there is some rust beginning to take hold of the barrel and action. You should treat it with some solvent on a rag and then apply a light coating of some good quality gun oil. DO NOT use abrasive material. Also, try not to get any petroleum based oil on the wood.
Stay tuned, I'll try to come up with more information.
Regards,
JP
